  1. I would go with the simple things first. Flush the brake fluid with new DOT4. I always bleed from the most furtherest wheel RR, LR, RF , LF. I have seen dramatic performance in stopping power with just a Bleed job. If the problem persists check those things Loren has outlined. D_Man
  2. The Transmission manufacturer is ZF, the attache file is the recommended fluids for the 5HP19 transmissions. I changed my ATF in my 1999 Tiptronic car and used the VW Audi fluid. Its all the same Oil just repckaged for each dealer. AUDI, Porsch, BMW etc. The place where I purchased my fluid is ETY Parts in LA thier email: ETYPARTS@AOL.COM 1.877.ety-part (Toll Free) 323.254.7442 (Local) Here is the ATF link. http://catalog.etyparts.com/item.wws?sku=G...mp;clientid=ety P.S. I decided to use the factory ATF inlieu of an after market such as Penzoil because this is what ZF recommends period. It was about a 2 hour get dirty type job, Im going to change mine once a year from now on. D_Man ZF_approved_Transmission_Fluids.pdf
  3. This place has those common Ignition switches for $7 here is the link, I picked a couple of spares. http://www.purems.com/products/product.php/II=1670 Ignition Switch SKU: 4A0905849B D Man
  4. Once the airbag light has been activated you need a system tester to reset the light, do you have a tester like the durametric unit, that might help to analyze your problem. The airbag circuit has tripped because of ether a bad component or open condition in the circuit. D Man
  5. Very nice install, where did you get you cable and posts? D Man
  6. I recently installed an Odyssey small Gel Cell battery, these batteries are high quality and built to Mil spec's. They can be adapted relatively easy by using an (.250) Aluminum plate and drilling holes for a hold down strap and mounting bolt hole from stock porsche config. The cost of the Odyssey Model 925 MJT cost around $140 not counting the mounting hardware I purchased locally. These batteries have a design life of 8-12 years and come with a 3 year warranty from the Manufacture. The Odyssey brad is manufactured by Enersys http://www.odysseyfactory.com/ and may be purchased through independent dealers. I went through West Coast battery http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc925mjt.htm My stock battery was getting weaker and weaker, And my car would sometime fail to start on the first or second try. Now my car starts quickly since the 925 MJT has 925 Cold cranking Amps CCA. If a person is going to run lots of electronics they recommend the Model 1200 which is only a bit bigger but smaller then the stock porsche battery, See the Pics D Man
  7. mine fell out too, or blew out from my fast driving. :D D_Man
  8. Mike (1) The 996 is susceptible to spark plug boot wear, its the long skinny tube on the end of your coil pack there are six of them to replace. This most likely is the source of your problem give the milage, the coil packs are probably OK. Pelican parts has them for 12.99 ea, I would replace all six at one time. http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopca..._BAStun_pg1.htm (2) Dont drive the car with the Check Eng. Light flashing, that means the problem is much more sever that the solid on all the time light. (3) The best reader for the money is the Durametric reader, www,durametric.com for $248 , but requires a laptop running XP I believe. http://www.durametric.com/ D_Man ;)
  9. Horn Issue solved!!!!! Loren was right again, both horns were bad. Replaced both Hi and Low tone horns with OEM version. Works great now and In the process I actually learned to remove to my bumper and found where the horns actually mount there on the right side. Since the bumper was removed anyway I took the opportunity to clean the radiators in the process, took out about a pound of trash from behind the condensers. Thanks, this board for the wealth of knowledge to porsche owners. D_Man :drive:
  10. Hey Gang, Im experiencing a lot of road noise though the drive train, could this be engine mounts wearing out? Running Yokohama tires with about 1/2 tread left, someone told me that Porsche recommended changing out the motor mounts every 36.000 miles. I test drove a new car and I couldn't hear the wheels turning. My car has like 85K now. Any one done this before? D Man
  11. This stuff works pretty well. http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=20229 D Man
  12. Could be the Air pump, for the engine that comes on at start up. D
  13. The horn issue is still a problem, After replacing the Horn contact plate, I seem to still have an intermitant horn operation. While the horn no longer honks when I stop, now it no longer honks at all. Im going to replace the relay first, if that doesnt solve the problem , Im going to have to remove the wheel and start ringing out the wiring. Could some one tell me how to gain access to the relay panel under the drivers foot well, need to know how this carpeted panel is held on. D Man
  14. Here are the numbers for Carrera 4, 996. However when in doubt replace them as New Rotor's can be found for around $100 online. D Man

  16. I have a 996 / 99 C2 Tip car, I know first hand of P1124 P1126 codes as I was forced to drive with them for months before a dealer figured it out. Save your money there might be nothing wrong with your MAF. However there is a possibility you have two seperate issues. The real culprit of P1124 P1126 might likely a Crankcase Bellows tube located on the top rear of the motor. 996 107 237 52 Bellows tube, these go bad on all cars eventually and are very hard to get to with out a Lift to get the car at the right height and angle to replace it, a tear or hole in this tube will throw these codes. My story. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...c=3583&st=0 If you search on "Bellows" you will find lots of info. D Man
  17. There are few wide body conversions for the 996, Gambella and this company offer wide body and conversion kits for the 996 cars. http://www.jacquemond.com/testing.htm D Man
  18. ****, There's no side wall left. Great looking car! What was the cost? per wheel? D Man
  19. Normally it is the coolant resivor that leak on this model. Coolant resivor can be changed in a DYI for around $250, If it is the water pump that is a bit more difficult but not impossible to DIY. If Lucky it might be a hose. D Man
  20. I would contact RUF, the manufactuer they might replace the defective wheel. Could you post a photo of the crack? D Man
  21. TP, Thanks, since I have a Tip car, that looks about right. Im just not used to seeing cut wire that do not go to any thing. Thanks Dennis
  22. Gang Im having the dreaded flimsy weak bushings on the Horn grounding plate. My problem is after removing the airbag and plate assay. from the steering wheel, there is a broken wire. The horn is a basic two wire concept, the One wire that attaches to the blade contact of the horn plate is OK. There is another with I noticed that did not go into any thing and was cut clean, Its brown with an orange stripe coming from the far end of the connector main connector plug coming thru the steering wheel. Need help Dennis
  23. This is the one of the best PC installs I have seen, out of Germany by some company called CAA AG. I have a target now to aspire too with my install. http://www.in.gr/auto/cartechnology/images..._big/carpc7.jpg D Man
  24. """"I don't get it.. why would any one want to install Mac mini on Boxster where there is no room for it. Specially right under steering wheel ??? It would make sense, if it was installed with GT3 console delete and install Mac mini in where center console was. But that's just my opinion."""" Well the only reason I can figure the Guy mounted it there was to have easy access to the CD/DVD of the mini, and I suspose he would want to remove the unit and take it inside the house for updates etc. If I was to use the under the steering wheel mounting location, I would have removed the Oners manual tray but still used the attach holes and picked up holes using a transfer plate. I might install my mini in the trunk out of the way and out of sight. D Man Chris Nice Job! On the WinDoz PC, Where is the PC unit mounted?, Is it integrated into the In dash Monitor setup you have Im thinking about going with a Xenarc 700IDT monitor for My mac mini. http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=91 D Man
  25. Check out the Mac mini install in this boxster. I need to do this just for fun. http://www.rainydaymagazine.com/RDM2006/Ra...bellInstall.htm Enjoy D Man
