  1. I have a 996 that has a broken Oil filler neck, Im told this can be changed in about 2 hours. Tha alternator has to come off the car so you can get to the bolts. Here is the DIY http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...4&hl=Oil+filler Dennis
  2. I fixed my check engine light issue. the code were for running rich on both banks. Porsche dealer in St Louis replaced my Oil seperator bellows for a total of $409, I did contemplate doing it my self but I couldnt see how a normal peron could get to this item with out the car being on a rack at just the right angle. You would think Porsche would install a small door under the back deck for enging access on the back side of the engine bay. Dennis
  3. I just changed the expansion tank out on my 996, it was not too dificult per the procedure, I would like to clerify a few things to make it better. 1. I hand pumped out almost all the fluid out of the coolant tank, using my brake bleeder pump, less mess. 2. I used a Turkey pan to catch a very minimul amount located under the tank area. 3. This method saved me from having to losen the bottom collant drain plug. 4. I was able to reuse almost all the old coolant, The New porsche coolant is now Pink in color, but it mixes with the Green coolant with no issues. 5. Next time I will use a pair of hose clamp pliers, insted of needle nose plires. 6. When disconnecting the fuel lines, use a set of crows feet wrenches. But I got the job done the above points just make it a little easier. D Man
  4. If it were me, and I do have the same problem on a 996, you can just repaint the bolts using silver wheel paint followed by a clear coat. Here's the link to wheel paints. Wheel Paint in Silver as well as a clear coat. I have used this product, it dries really quick. http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=20229 D Man
  5. Thanks, outstanding job on the DIY, with your procedure I feel I should have no problems. Appreciate you help. Dennis
  6. I was swapping out my coolant reservoir and the oil filler tube got bet out of the way a bit and snapped off with very little force i might add. Any clues on how difficult it is to change out?
  7. I just used the above DIY to change out my coolant expansion tank on my 1999 996. It worked out well. Thanks D Man
  8. I had a check engine light on my 99 996 C2, almost all year and had struggled to find the fix, took it into our local dealer today here in St Louis, and the car was diagnosed with a leaking bellows on the driver side. The dealer is going to charge around 2 hours of labor to install this part, has anyone attempted this before? The porsche mechanic showed me what was leaking small accordian tube on the Left hand side to the front of the engine bay on top. Need part number, cant find in PET and some instructions. Thanks D Man
  9. I have the Yokohama ES-100 tires on my 99 C2, handle great in the rain. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...romCompare1=yes You basic high performance tire for those of us on a budget, $100 a piece. D_Man
  10. That's normal behavior for a Tiptronic transmission, in in M mode at a stop light the will shift up to 2nd, theres an internal 8 sec timer that does this. The car will not simply stay in 1st as you thought, you must continually press the (-). That my experince.
  11. Well I spent Saturday morning changing my window regulator on the driver side, suprizingly it was not that hard, The tips I have are as follows. The Bombay digital link had more than enough info . to complete the job. 1. Roll the Window down before disconnecting the battery, if you are going to disconnect the battery; Standard operating procedure. You will need to reconnect the battery when it comes to the adjustment phase. 2. Be very careful not to damage the foam insulation when gaining access to the Window regulator. I resued mine by being careful ($75.00 part) 3. Mark the lower attach legs of the old regulator, will help when installing new part and require less adjusting. 4. Mark the Glass at the lower attach points, make sure its very visible befor you remove the galss. 5. After installing the regulator and installing the glass back into the regulatir attach points, make very sure you dont over torque the Jaws holding the Glass 7.00 foot lbs (Med Hand tight) 6. The adjustment of the new window regulator took anly 2 try to get it right, with a aft attach point adjutment and it was good. 7. Heres the 2 links again if you need it. http://www.ecoutez.net/boxster/door-panel-removal/ http://www.bombaydigital.com/boxster/projects/window/ D_Man B)
  12. While changing my Fuel Filter I broke on of the clips on Fwd Coolant Support (7) 996.106.475.91 On the PET CD. Im having trouble identifying the correct part number in need to replace. Illistration 105-05 Model 996 Year 99 The Long Coolant lines that run through the tunnel have to support brackets that hold the tubes in place running through the tunnel, The aft set of brakets that support the Fuel Filter are OK but the set FWD (7) in the tunnel tha holds the two Long HARD cooling lines and small line is cliped between these Pet shows Line (4) and (5) being held by Supports (6 & 7) and I think (7) is what I need but there is also a part number (-17) might be the part I need as well. Not sure hope this is enough info to go on. Dennis :help:
  13. Best links for Door panel removal and window regulator replacment. 1) http://www.bombaydigital.com/boxster/projects/window/ 2) http://www.ecoutez.net/boxster/door-panel-removal/ Enjoy D
  14. Does anyone know the website for the instructions for replacing the window regulator? D Man
  15. My car is doing this same thing the dealer said it was the window regulator, his cost to replace $500 $290 for the part and $200 to install. However the window regulator can be had for $175 from http://www.the-best-source.com/ I'll let you know how easy it was when I'm finished. D Man
  16. The following is a very nice DIY on the subject, Im planning on doing my own as well on my 1999 Carrera Tip. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...03&hl=Tiptronic D Man
  17. Im looking for all the authorized types of ATF that can be used in the Tiptronic, does any one have the TSB for this? ZF who makes the tiptronic for porsche, recommends the following for the listed transmissions. 5HP19XXX types See application chart attached . Porsche Oil No. 999.917.547.00 which is Esso ATF LT 71141, sold under Porsche pn. listed. and (1) Fill differential and transfer box with gear oil Burmah SAF-AG4 (Audi / VW Oil No. N 052145000, Porsche Oil No. 999.917.545.00). The fluids listed are rare and expensive in the states, Im looking for suitable substitute to use, Pennzoil multi-vehical ATF Im told is an authorized atf and Quaker State multi-vehical ATF all say they can be used for Porsche. I really need to see the exact approved list of ATF's before I try to change my ATF fluid. D
  18. The following article might help shed some light, I would check the options sticker under the front hood and see exactly what the car came with originally, Your car might could have had ether lowering springs installed or the full M030 kit installed, you might see if there are part numbers on any of the components and those can help identify which you have. 996 Standard and Sport Suspensions Analyzed Spring rate and shock dyno data comparing different 996 C2 six-speed coupe factory suspension configurations By Russ Dickerson Bob Gagnon http://www.pca.org/panorama/sample_article_3.html Mike Schatz
  19. Got a question, I need to verify the following Spark plugs are the right ones for my car. I purchased these from an online retailer. The plugs are packaged Bosch Super with the following part number FGR 6 KQC (Bosch no. 0 242 240 578 ). My car is a 1999 996 C2 tiptronic. Any ideas? D
  20. See the following clip for a really bad club racing wreck, this guys flips several times. D http://www.big-boys.com/articles/pcrash.html
  21. Guys After all this time and countless thousands spent, This wasnt as big a problem as we first thought , just lots of dirty work. With the redesign of the RMS seal, hopfully they will minimise the frequency of failure. Hey look at it this way when you redo the cluthch, this will be a item to check/fix while in that area. Very nice job on the web site DIY, however I doubt too many guys will want to tackle this one in thier driveway. I need to invest in a lift. D
  22. Hi Guys Just an fyi, I have had instances of the brake wear sensor coming on after a car wash, where I was cleaning up into and around the wheels. Could be a faulty sensor on my part. D
  23. Hi My 1999 996 has a A96 Tiptronic transmission, your car takes an A86 , knowing porsche I would bet these two are not compatable. I would bite the bullet and go get the appropriate transmission for your motor you are going to use. BTW you might consider going to a six speed manual transmission. The Guys at LA dismantalers can help, they get all the porsche wrecks. (818) PORSCHE (767-7243) If I needed a used transmission this is where Id go. http://laporsche.com/ Sorry I could not be more help, Im sure we have people on this board that can answer the question exactly. Good Luck D
  24. MikeG123, Hey what type of bumper cover it that you have on your car, looks sort of like a GT3 style? D Man
  25. Hey what was the out come on this topic. This is better reading than a dime store novel. I have the same codes BTW. I think porsche / bosch have made millions on the this MAF component. D
