  1. I was worried also, until I heard the reasoning behind this smoke during startup. The difference with the flat 6 is that when engine is stopped, a small amount of engine oil collects into the cylinder which in this case is horizontal. Normal straight engines have vertical cylinders so it is a bit differents case. If there was some further reasoning for a GT3 & GT3 RS having this bad habit and "normal" P-cars not, I just don´t recall. Anyway, this amount of oil is very small and should only produce one small blue cloud. Or have I been mislead about this?
  2. Interesting experience and helpful feedback regarding the Lexan rear window - thank you. The US / North America spec GT3 RS comes equipped with a thin glass rear window only. The cost to replace the glass with the ROW spec Lexan plastic window is ~US$1,400 + installation for a 3KG weight savings. Most would consider the price too high to justify the weight savings. I have heard comments from some GT3 RS owners who have done the conversion that they experience rear window vibration noise at higher speeds when a side window is open. In North America only early production 2007 and no 2008 GT3 RS' came equipped with the stud plates welded to the floor of the tub used to install the front and rear roll bars. My RS (#2710) did not come with them. DOT regulations forbid the use of Lexan windows and the fitment of 'Track' roll bars to a street vehicle imported into the US. Nothing to say the owner can't fit them afterward though. With regards to the window rattle, it was never designed to have the windows down at speed. Don't get me started on what I think about driving on a race track with the top up and windows down !!!! I never even thought about driving it with the windows down, though in this RS case it might be less noisy, huh? I am sorry that your authorities make your live difficult. My Euro spec ´08 car had everything pre-installed, even floor mat/insulation pre-cut for the roll cage. Even within European Union it is not allowed to drive with full cage, so I´ll see what happens in the first annual. The reasoning behind this is that race equipped cars are "provocative". So, if anyone gets killed when speeding while I am around, it is my fault.
  3. It was news to me that US spec RS does not have plastic rear window and rear roll bars. In Europe you couldn´t order one without them. Just few days ago I installed the Porsche original front roll bars. Very nice and very heavy engineering so it really adds safety, but adds weight of course. About the rear window, I have never ever noticed any vibration or anything with it. I might just be too slow.
  4. I finally took my RS to a local race shop for adjustments. By turning the "supporting mount" ie. the plate on top of the shock 180 degrees does it. Some shims were needed, too. Now the car has -2,5 degrees camber and 0.5mm toe-out in front, and original settings of -1,7 degrees camber and 1.0mm toe-in in rear. The sway bars were also left as original, front 1 from soft and rear in the middle. Thanks QP for your advice, I think I now have the basic settings on it.
  5. Well I am a beginner in this, trying to learn these things. As far as I understand, the settings you mention seem reasonable and a good starting point, and they match what Michelin says about camber settings for Pilot Sport Cup, keeping in how they put it: "don´t get too crazy here". I don´t dare to touch the ride height before I can be sure I still get to the main road from where I live ie. unless I make it stiffer. What I am looking for is HOW to adjust camber in the original GT3 RS.
  6. I have been searching this forum for suspension setting items, but no luck. Could of course be my bad English. Anyway, please advice where I can find more information about the subject. At first I am planning to decrease camber because I mainly drive the car on the track. In the front the "supporting mount" ie the plate holding the strut may have optional holes so turning it might be how to do it. Please, guidance needed!
  7. I ordered a set of screens from Carneval, I think they are from Carcarphics (correct me if I am wrong). At first, reading some messages at this website, I thought this will be impossible. Well, I already made some alternative screens. Luckily my friend, a car freak by nature, visited me this afternoon, and with him we found a way to fit the screens without any modifications, keeping all original air ducts intact. Very nice indeed.
  8. I am removing all unnecessary weight fom the trunk so all plastics have to go. When I bumped into this stupid little part last night I just knew renntech.org has the answer for me. Thanks guys. :renntech:
  9. If I knew exactly what you are looking for I might be able to help you. At least I have a ´08 GT3 RS in the garage, so if you could post a pic of the position where you miss something I could try to locate the missing part in a real life example. I can see you are in a hurry so I am sorry if I don´t happen to visit the site every day.
  10. I have to admit I spent some time finding out where to fit the extinguisher in my new 997 GT3 RS. Finally I made a Google pic search and found a glimpse of an RS with extinguisher mounted in the middle of the co-driver footwell. Taking off the mat revealed the position of the extinguisher mounting holes. So, in a 997 GT3 just remove the co-driver mat to see if you can find the extinguisher position there, no matter which seats you may have.
