  1. Was the car missing or running poorly? Being low on oil is a bad thing. If it's the RMS the engine should still run just fine. Call a flatbed next time. Don't take a chance. E :o
  2. You're asking for problems. You aren't going to see any gains. The computer limits how much air is allowed into the engine. MAF sensor is going to give you problems once it cokes up with oil. It's a Porsche not a GMC truck. E :D
  3. Don't be a low life! You damaged the dash you pay to replace it!! Why would Porshe be required to replace a dash you damaged. Hello it's plastic or leather? Lexus replaced something? Never again!! They are cheap asses!!!! E
  4. Don't do it!! It causes all kinds of problems!!! You'll get an ABS/PSM failure. Want LEDs go buy a 997. E
  5. WARNING!!! Only buy cars that you know the complete history!!! This rings true when buying a Porsche. I will only buy cars that have a complete history and have not been Lease cars!! Anything that has passed thur an auction house! I don't care what Porsche model it is. Be very picky!! VERY PICKY! It's better to pay a little more up front then later. Half the fun is looking. The more cars you look at will help build your understanding of the model you plan on buying. You may find the model isn't right and pick say a 911. I'd bet you can find a 996 for the price of a boxster. Go look. It's worked very well for me and made my selling easy. Have fun :clapping: E
  6. I would suspect that you would have intermix (oil in the coolant or vis versa) I would perform a compression test first. You could also pull the plug and boroscope it as you turn the engine by hand to expose as much of the cylinder wall as you can see -- but it still might be hard to see. mike It seems their is a lot of problems with cyclinders 2 and 5! Does it smoke everytime you start it??? Or only after it sits awhile? If the smoke is white odds are it's coolant. I wouldn't drive it tell you know for sure. E
  7. Run it! No issues! I've been running it for the last 4 tanks. Once it gets into the system you can go 3oz for the whole tank. You really want to run it through the fuel system not just let it sit in the tank. I run it in ATV's, jetski's and the Porsche with no issues. E :D :D :D
  8. Knowing the history is everything!! The cars the pull low dollars have a bad history. I would stay away from 99's. Nobody really know for sure whats going on with the M96. My 03 996 will be going down to Jake next spring. One thing is for sure, don't run the M96 with low oil. You're asking for major problems!! If you baby the engine you may live to regret it. Tach it up once it's warm and run it like you stole it! NEVER sit on the highway in 6th gear turning 2700 RPM. Go buy the book Porsche 996 The Essential Companion. It's got a really good section about the M96 motor. Unbias. Good luck with the purchase. E :drive:
  9. I'm shocked what a difference the new tires have made. SHOCKED! I was hearing and feeling things I shouldn't have. My fronts were 6 years old, rears 3 years old and almost at the wear index. E :D :D
  10. I had 15000 miles on a pair of Pzeros and my car sounded like the door was open. Get some new rubber!! I just dropped new Pzeros and it's like a new car!! I'd give and even money bet it's your tires. E
  11. Someone chime in, will his speed and mileage be off??? Wheel is turning less. That's what I would want to know. E :o
  12. Do you really think the engine needs more air or a new airfilter?? Nope! The computer will only let so much air in. Plus the fact of running an airfilter flush with oil. Not on a Porsche motor. I run the KN on my atv's. No issues with ATV's. The Porsche motor is dialed in. It needs  nothing. You're wasting your time and asking for problems!!! Just my take. E
  13. So it's metric. I'd bet it's hectopascals. Out here in Ohio it's 40 and dropping fast with snow on its way. I just ran here for 45 min. At 4000 RPM it's at 4.5 to 5 bars. Soild doesn't move. Is this normal? It runs smooth and tight. The dealer seems like it's normal??? E
  14. Hey guys after reading a post last week about a guys oil presure gage I started keeping an eye on mine. Clearly the old gage was bad. It would show 3.5 to .5 when I turn the key to on and the car had been sitting overnight. I had them pull the old presure senor. The dealership says everythings cool. I'm run 0w-40. When the car is cold the presure goes to 4 to 4.5 and once it warms up in sit around 1.5 at idle. On the highway 4000 RPM's it sitting at 4.0 to 4.5. I looked at the manual and it gives the highway reading. I'd rather have to much then zero oil presure. What's the scale? I'm guessing 4 is 40 psi?? 1 is 10 psi? Metric? It runs cool and just looking for some insight. Thanks E out in OHIO! :D
  15. FYI the part number above has been updated. The dealer told me this part has been a big problem. E
  16. My 02 996 just came out of the dealership for the 30000 check and the oil pressure is doing what everyone else is reporting. Off it reads zero, turn the key and mine jumps to 2. Put the engine under any load and it jumps to 5 and stays there. Is it a DIY job or does it need to go into the dealership again? Anyone know the shop time for that pressure sensor repair? :renntech: Thanks E
  17. Has anyone out there had Jake at Flat Six Innovations do the IMS retrofit on there 996??? Thanks guys. E
  18. Run the V1 for a month and you'll sell your Escort!! Knowing where to look is half the battle. That's where the V1 is tops!! I own 2. Call and talk to them. They will sell you a "returned one" for a discount. Mine looked brand new when they showed up!! GO V1!! E
  19. My 2003 911 never goes above the zero no matter what I'm doing, city or highway. That's how I know when she's up to temp before I start to tach it up. E ;)
  20. I have all the history, 1 owner and 1 Porsche dealer did all the work. I'm doing the pre-buy inspection Wednesday with the dealer that sold and serviced the car. The service rep told me plan on 2 hrs of labor for the pre-buy. The records show normal service and a RMS at ~7000, new headlight at ~12,000, new rear tires at 15,000. 4700 miles a year. The market is very soft. I've found a lot of 911's for sale. 3/4 are motivated to sell. Others think the car is made of gold. The warranty is www.easycare.com does anyone know about easy care? Dealer claims they will cover the motor. I checked the website and it has a few holes but looks fair for 36 months and 36,000 miles. E
