  1. Yup - sounds like cats. But as everyone has said, with engine off hit the cats with a mallet. If they make a sound it's for sure.
  2. I am in the exact same situation - I live in Boston, I have a C4, and my commute is 3 miles each way, and if it's snowing heavily I will either leave it at the office or leave it at home. I don't want 2 sets of tires and wheels - So, I am getting Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. (All Season)
  3. Eric When I installed my Pioneer double din unit, I placed the mike right on the steering wheel column. What that does is that even with the top down, I can actually make myself heard - it's not a perfect sound for the other caller, but good enough in an emergency....never have to take my eyes off the road... The mike I use has a noise cancelling capability where most of the background noise is filtered out: Clarion RCB199 External Noice Cancellation Microphone
  4. I used the TSB to solve a very frustrating noise on my convertible top. I bought a durametric and learned how to solve my airbag light problems through here. I found out about vacuum leaks etc and solved them thanks to this forum. I tackled the installation of an aftermarket Pioneer AVIC unit thanks to this forum. I think this is the best technical forum on the Internet for automobiles.
  5. If you really want to race with a 996 on a track - get a manual. Tiptronic is a convenience. PDK is convenience plus race. PS: It's "Believe" and "They're"
  6. Renntech - this site that we all know and love, is run by Loren - our trusty administrator on his own dime. He needs help keeping this site with all the wealth of knowledge, DIY, TSB's, pictures, etc ALIVE. Right now the site may close down in December unless he can get additional funding. Please be a paying contributor member if you're not already: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?/forum-2/announcement-5-how-to-become-a-contributing-member/
  7. No - many many people are very comfortable putting their Porsche's apart. If you believe you can make a clean, well functioning paddle shifter kit that can be retrofitted to existing steering wheel - I highly recommend you create and market one - I'm sure many people will buy it.
  8. I would do this too, but I hate the look. I wish it had a Porsche crest on the airbag. BUT if I tracked this car - yes definitely would do it
  9. No - I did understand you. They offer it with paddle shifters. contact them. It's around $1500 or so http://www.carnewal-usa.com/cpx_p052.htm
  10. That's an amazing steal. Dealers are selling 2001 / 2002 Turbos for $40-$45K. I'd buy it if I didn't already have a 996
  11. I use BG 44K. My in city driving fuel economy went from around 11.3mpg to 12.8mpg. Not bad
  12. Ask your Porsche specialist what is the cause of the engine failure. Depending on the cause, a rebuild may or may not be possible. Also i didn't know if a 997 engine could be put into a 996?
  13. Just went back to the dealer - it was a brittle hose - replaced and all is fine :) They diagnosed and replaced it for FREE - benefits of a good relationship with the dealer
  14. Hello all, I hve exactly the same problem. What did you find out was the problem?
  15. CONGRATULATIONS beautiful car, color combination And love the introduction !
  16. yes this is the right cable. I fixed it here http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/574384-convertible-top-not-folding-closed-quite-right-pics-solved-2.html
  17. FIX to the PROBLEM POSTED HERE http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/574384-convertible-top-not-folding-closed-quite-right-pics-solved-2.html
  18. Quick update: It is the tension cable that goes along the passenger side. I can pull it down - there's basically no tension (it's slack). What's the part number of that cable? Thanks
  19. Thanks - am really hoping it's that simple - but what am I looking for Pic or diagram would be helpful... TIA
  20. It looks like the cable (inside the vinyl sheath) may be stretched or has become "unanchored" from where it is screwed in under the rear of the top frame (base of the B-Pillar on a Boxster). Not sure if this will be helpful, but take a look at this DIY for a similar problem with Boxsters, your 911 may have similar mechanisms at play: http://sites.google....fallintoguidech If it does help with your 911 top, let me know and I can add a few words to the DIY for 911 owners. Regards, Maurice. Maurice this is fantastic. I will have a look later today
  21. Hi, Just noticed today closing the top there's a gap as pictured below. Any ideas? I tried pulling it as i closed along that edge, didn't quite work...
