  3. I have the plastic window and find it to be pretty much useless. I've read that the glass window is a bit better but is actually smaller. Most of the time, I have the top down so it's not much of an issue. I use the hardtop from October to May. I guess you may have more issues with a plastic window in Seattle.

I don't think I've read about any IMS failures with those cars, so maybe the improvements have addressed the problem. If I had one, I would probably buy the IMS Guardian as there is no way to proactively upgrade the bearing.
  5. Regarding Flat6 Innovations, they seem to do very good work from what I've read, but Jake does tend to have "The sky is falling!" attitude. On LN Engineering's site, they say that the LNE IMS upgrade should be good for 5-6 years, or 50-60 thousand miles. In Jake's sales pitch for the IMS Guardian, he says that the LNE IMS bearing is good for 3-4 years or 40 thousand miles. Both estimates seem low to me, and Jake's seem very low. Think about it - the MTBF for OEM IMS bearings is probably at least 80k miles when you factor in all of the low mileage failures and the high mileage successes. So it stands to reason that an over-engineered, upgraded bearing should last longer than the "ill-conceived" and "poorly engineered" OEM bearing. Time will tell if this is true. If we start reading about failed LNE bearings in 3 or 4 years, I might buy the IMS Guardian, which incidentally is still being tested even though orders are being taken. For the record, even though I think the IMS issue is over-hyped, I had the upgrade done for some peace of mind. The IMS Guardian, as described, wouldn't give me the same warm and fuzzy feeling. I'd always be wondering when the alarm would go off...on the way to a job interview, or a wedding, or to the airport for a business trip. Just my two cents.
  6. I've been thinking about that same bumper and would love to hear the details and see photos of the progress. I was wondering how it might look to make the new (997) signals into Daylight Running Lights and keep the old headlight fixture as is.
  7. A 2000 C2 Cab with 10k miles and a 2002 Turbo with 90k miles are galaxies apart for the purposes of comparison. It depends on how you plan to drive the car and what you expect out of it. Regarding the 2000 C2 Cab, it would be silly to inspect the IMS without changing it, as most of the cost is in the labor required to access it.
  8. Hi, I have a 2000 C2 Cab (Tiptronic) and I love it. I think the price sounds good, but I'm not an expert, and options also play a role in the price. I would factor in another $1500 to $2500 for an IMS/RMS upgrade (do a search). Make sure you get a thorough pre-purchase inspection from a qualified Porsche mechanic. If you buy it, I would recommend having the IMS done immediately. Low-use cars seem to be particularly susceptible to IMS failure (catastrophic). Good luck!

  10. Did you notice any improvement compared to the old mounts before they let go? Or do the mounts work properly until they fail?
  11. Sorry, but water pumps, alternators, ignition switches, etc, while annoying, are parts that need replacing on most 10+ year old cars. The problem as I see it is that these cars look so good for so long, that people forget that they're old cars. Maybe I'm numb to little things like that as boat owner. I've had to change the starter on my boat, 6 of the 7 seasons I've had it. That little job costs $1500 a pop because the engine has to be removed to make the change. This is due to a bad design. Incidentally, I don't mean to step on your venting. Vent away! IMS/RMS is another issue that I'll ignore here as it's been beaten to death everywhere.
  12. When the headlights are off, the side markers and front markers flash in unison. When the headlights are on, they flash alternately.

  14. I know this is a very old post, but thanks Porsche Nut for this write-up. I just did the mod and it works great. Frankly I'm a little surprised that this function wasn't standard for safety's sake. I think the hardest part was getting the trunk liner out of the way. I found that adding a small piece of wire (about 4 inches) makes splicing the wires on the inside of the trunk easier.

    I saw an old post of yours about performing the amberectomy procedure. I also have 2000 C2 Cab Tip (green) and would like to do this mod. Did you wind up doing it? If so, any tips you can pass along?

  17. I want to add my thanks for this great mod write-up. I just did it on my MY2000 C2 Cab and the instructions were perfect. I did have to dig around a bit to find the gray/pink wire, but it was there and the mod works perfectly.

  20. If your car sits for 5 days or more, the remote is disabled. Have you tried unlocking the car manually and starting it? That worked for me.
  21. I think this is par for the course, that's why I added an iPod. The antenna booster is in the right side "A" pillar (at least it is for left-hand drive cars). I examined mine and cleaned the ground but there was no noticeable difference.
  22. There is a thread about this issue on Rennlist and 6SpeedOnline. The guy ended up buying a relay and not using the resisters. There is a link for the relay in that thread. I believe that SuperBrightLEDs.com sells the relays too.
  23. I like my setup. One wire from the CDR220 to the iPod Touch 4G. No gizmos or other wires involved.
