  1. I'll be doing this DIY this weekend. Is the washer for the coolant drain plug the same as oil drain plug washer?
  2. Yes, Autozone and probably every other auto parts chain will read the codes for free. You can buy a code reader pretty cheaply and they do come in handy and will work with all of your cars. You don't need a Durametric for reading and resetting common codes. A typical ODBII reader will do just fine in most cases.
  3. I have the spin-on adapter and magnetic drain plug but never knew about the FilterMag. Very cool! Thanks for the information. I'll be ordering one. Do you recommend having one or do you use a pair?
  4. You obviously don't have anything to add to the conversation. Why do you keep replying?
  5. Have a full read of this thread, you will find many tips on changing the waterpump, taking it out the top is not one of them I have read this thread. I've also read elsewhere that taking it out through the top is much easier. I'm looking for information from someone who has done this.
  6. I've read that if you remove the idler pulley above the water pump you can remove the pump from the top. This is supposed to be easier than removing it from the bottom. If I take that approach can I skip the steps for removing the engine bracket below it? How about if I'm also replacing the thermostat and housing?
  7. From what I've read it's not something you want to tackle as a DIY project.
  8. Try 0195 That worked! Thanks so much. I just replaced my door latch using the DIY on this site. Now everything is working again!
  9. Hi Loren, could you find the code for CDR220 Y5038702. I have 0194 written into my owner's manual but that doesn't work.
  10. I did the fix with glue and heavy duty stitching. Looked like crap and killed my fingers. Eventually had the top replaced. The labor is the same whether you have them repair or replace the top. It has to come off to do it properly. I opted to get a new top made of German A5 canvas (like oem) and stayed with the plastic window rather than going with the much smaller glass window. The plastic windows are now double-stitched and won't de-laminate like the original did.
  11. The Depo/Dectane LED tails are the nicest in my opinion. They are definitely better made (and more expensive) than the Ebay lights. They are truly plug and play with no issues as they have resistors built in. On the other hand, I do think the cheaper ones are nice too, just not as nice or as OEM-like build wise.
  12. There is an excellent video on youtube on how to do it. It's really an easy DIY. One tip is to spray the plastic clips and plugs with soapy water.
  13. I just found the DIY for this. http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/25464-cab-drivers-window-auto-droop/?hl=window+microswitch# Still debating whether to do this myself. I've had the door panel off and that wasn't too bad. Seems like a lot of tricky connections to this thing, but probably sounds worse than it is. Pelican Parts has it for $190 with free shipping. For my 2000 Cab, the part number for the driver's side is 8N1-837-015-C-M1002
  14. @Chicagospeed996. Where did you find the part for $160? I'm seeing $240 online.
  15. I just encountered this problem. The crazy thing is that the driver side door latch went bad while I was replacing the passenger side outer handle switch. I patted myself on the back for a job well done and then when I went to drive the car I discovered the latch problem. What are the odds? Anyway, I know how to remove the inside door panels now. Is there a DIY for the actual R&R of the door latch?
  16. I took my ashtray to Home Depot and had it color-matched in flat latex enamel combination top coat/primer. It is great for touch ups. I even recently tried it on the side of my driver's seat which was badly cracked. Great improvement. If you don't have an ashtray you can pop off one of the leather side pieces under the front center console and take that to get color-matched.
  17. I've noticed that it shifts to 1st after I back up, otherwise it starts in 2nd. That is normal behavior.
  18. Sorry if this had been covered, but couldn't find any reference. The parking brake switch on my MY2000 C2 cab has been working intermittently and sometimes preventing the cab top from opening or closing. I can tell that it's the switch because the associated dashboard light doesn't light when this occurs. Where is the switch and what needs to be done to gain access to it? Also, some have suggested that it might just need to be lubricated. Is that a reasonable fix or should it just be replaced given its age? Thanks in advance, Bill
  19. I just started hearing a brief high-pitched squeal when my radiator fans first kick in. Is this a reasonable DIY? I haven't seen any clear instructions on any forum, just speculation of what might or might not need to be removed.
  20. For what it's worth, the 3.4 mufflers for cars with Tiptronic transmissions also have the accordian pipe. The person generally acknowledged to be the expert in this mod, Darin Fister, now performs the same modification on both the 3.4 and 3.6 mufflers. I believe there are internal differences and it is said to be OK to use 3.6 mufflers on a 3.4 car, but not visa versa.
  21. Just did this and breaking off the black and green pieces from the old unit is definitely the way to go. That makes it a 5 minute job. Oh yes, and it added 14.5 horsepower. :)
