  1. The lighter in my car is not switched. If it were then a battery maintainer (AC or solar) would not work. Until I rewired/hardwired the radar detector I had to turn it on/off.
  2. Beautiful car! And RFM is right. There is a lot good stuff, and the search function is your friend. :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:
  3. Try Crutchfield.com for advice. Also try a search as this topic and adding nav have been beaten to death here and at 986forum.com. There is no big problem I know of until the 2003 and later MOST bus. The optical connections are over most people's head. And mine. And... :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:
  4. April issue of PCA's Panorama has some news or rumors about the 2012 911 (dropping the Carrera name). - Displacement down to 3.4 in base 911S at 350 hp/280lb-ft and 911RS at 400/295 with 3.8 engine. - Electro-hydraulic steering. - Side view mirrors may be replaced by tv screens at base of A-pillar. - And possibly a 7 step CVT! Wonder how that will translate to Boxster/Caymans?
  5. Guidelines/Rules are on the grey banner just under the RennTech logo.
  6. I know a lot of people use "trickle charger" and "battery maintainers" interchangeably. But what you want is a maintainer, not a charger. Battery Tender is one popular brand. I have the Porsche version like White987 has, and it was not all that expensive. I had forgotten the old fuel pump trick. Good post. I used to pop the coil wire off. But you are still just slowly moving un-lubed parts together. Shooting some oil into each cylinder before and after storage helps too.
  7. You will want to sign up as a sponsor if you start selling the product here. From guidelines: I don't think you are breaking the rules by "testing the market." Sounds like a cheap version of my SmartTop. You might even get Loren to add it to the RennTech Amazon store.
  8. Or you could wire the modulator to the switched lead for the phone option. My radar detector is wired that way.
  9. There was a nice wheel repair/paint piece in one of the last coupla Excellence magazine.
  10. That is nice. Wonder if Mobil 1 is all you can use with it? And 0W-40 or 5W. Sorry, Loren. I could not resist.
  11. Ah...yah.......a 997.2 with PCM that includes Serius, BlueTooth, HandsFree,Nav,Alt audio,(and conventional radio)........looks like an AT&T wiring hub back there. :D I'm going in with a probe and voltmeter tonight........wish me luck. The plug also has a mute connector as well as a ground. I used a Becker plug to avoid tapping a factory wire. If you go that way make sure the Becker connector is color coded same as the car plug. Mine was not and it almost drove me crazy troubleshooting it. I have the radar detector "switched" and the garage door opener wired to always "hot." Good luck.
  12. Far be it for me to question Loren. :soapbox: But I'm doing my 5k mile oil change this month and will be using 5W-40. You'll have to scroll down this link to get to the key parts. And read a lot on the LN Engineering research from Charles Navarro. Including the question "Why consider diesel oil in a gas engine?" http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html#Z8. I think this subject matter has been covered here before, but the debate continues in a lot of places.. My new LN Engineering canister filter adapter just arrived for use with the K&N Gold HP-1007 filter. Very high quality piece of machining. I'll try to take some pics later this month when I do the oil change. :wrench: I have no association with LNE or Jake Raby. But admire both. Oh, and become a Contributing Member so you can read the TSB on currently approved oils. And other TSBs. :renntech:
  13. I've seen several PCA badges done on the driver's side usually. I'm still considering it but would not want to drill the mesh. Maybe double stick tape - the thick version my wife mounts art with. Maybe some kind of non-hardening putty? I've also wondered if it might whistle at speed.
  14. Jake Raby's site has some good stuff also. http://www.flat6innovations.com/engine-failures-illustrated And I think people on this site have also mentioned the info (especially on oil) at LN Engineering. http://www.lnengineering.com/index.html The more people attacking these engines the better off we'll be in the M96 community.
  15. Adaptive as in pushing your butt around during spirited driving? I tried them in a BMW and did not like artificial heinie stimulation. The 9x6 sport seats are too narrow in the shoulders for many of us.
  16. Do the 997s have the telephone plug behind the center stack? Mine has both switched and unswitched.
  17. Don't know how big your mic is, but I've considered building a mount for my radar detector. You can put fingers between the windshield and the trim piece that runs across the w/s. You might be able to rig it there and even press fit it. Should not be as obvious there as on the A pillar.
  18. This might be helpful. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...p;hl=microphone
  19. Ditch the bra. Some people like them, I'm not one. For track days might be a god idea. They can scratch your paint - especially if car (or inside of bra) is dirty. On a trip you have to remove it when it rains or the paint will turn milky. And :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:
  20. I'm gonna get one for my 914! Go thru the RennTech store when you go to Amazon!
  21. Agree 100%. I keep the Bentley manual (from Amazon) close for easy reference. I have a hardcopy of the factory manual purchase cheap from Sunset in my shop for the details Bentley sometimes (often) omits. Of course the Bentley is about the size of one volume of the 15 or 16 in the factory manual. :sunset:
  22. I know nothing about 996 Cabrios, but my Box came wired for the ragtop defroster, and the hard top uses the same plug. The only change to adding a hard top is to install spinlocks.
  23. I vote to ask permission if it isn't too hard. I have the issue, but believe it would be worthwhile to be able to provide a link whenever someone goes hyper about the M96. Neither Excellence staffers nor the test cars have never had a M96 grenade. One RMS leak reported repaired with many miles since.
  24. You can always ask Becker the radio manufacturer. http://www.beckerautosound.com/ IIRC you might have to have PIWIS set system to "recognize" the remote player?
