  1. I strongly advise you against the Cat bypass pipes. You will hate them. Enormous resonance and loss of low end torque. The sound is really obnoxious. I bought mine from Fabspeed and returned them. Try to drive a car with Cat bypass pipes and make up your own mind. Phillipj
  2. Congrats on the new toy! I would be interested in where you got the mats as well. I bought my 99 C2 almost 3 years ago and I still love to drive it! Regarding the clutch, I agree with the others that it's jsut a matter of getting used to the clutch in the Porsche.. I have 67k on the original clutch and it is far from needing to be replaced. Since everyone is posting a pic here is mine. Enjoy the car! Phillipj
  3. Mike, Just another bit of info...You should be able to get another warranty that covers you for another 4 or 5 years (or even longer) for about $2100. Well worth it in my opinion (considering a water pump will set you back about $850.) Just a thought.. Phillipj
  4. Mike, Guess you have to have faith in your tech to do a proper overall inspection. Do you have a good indie in your area that would give you an objective look at your car? The dealer in my town are such jerks I wouldn't trust them to tell me anything. After your warranty expires you should be able to get another one very easily because of the low miles on your car. There are some good threads on this site for reputable warranty companies. Hope this helps. Good luck! <_< Phillip
  5. No I don't believe so . The dimensions are different. I'm sure that someone else on the forum will confirm this. PHILLIPJ
  6. Loren, What does this secondary pump do? I have the same sound but it isn't abnormal. Thanks, Phillipj
  7. My indie here quoted me $1600 for P&L for the clutch. $2500 is robbery. I'm sure my dealer here would charge that much (considering they charge $270 for an oil change.) Phillipj
  8. Congrats! Now you have the disease.. There is no cure. Wish I could help you with the other problems. i'm sure someone on this site can. Enjoy! Phillipj
  9. Ls911, I have the Fabspeed Cold air intake and the Fabspeed mufflers. I love the sound. If you can afford it I would go for the mufflers. Everyone has a different opinion on their favorite muffler sound and manufacturer. I love mine. It sounds like a jet. I don't know what the cold air intake alone will do. Fabspeed has a sound clip of the intake on their website. Might want to check that out. Hope this helps Phillipj
  10. you'll be fine with either of the people I suggested. Like I said, try to meet them both and see waht you think. Phillipj
  11. Lemon, I have a 996. Both guys charge $140 for an oil change. Neither mechanic will let me bring my own parts. I do have another mechanic who will. For brake rotors etc. Do you just need someone for maitenance? Phillipj
  12. Hi Lemon, I live in Pasadena. I have two good people for you. You may want to talk to them and see which one you like. The first is Art Barian at Modern Auto Tech. He was a master mechanic at Beverly Hills Porsche for many years before he started his own shop. Although the shop is not impressive (messy) he does excellent work and his prices are very fair. The number is 626 398 9977. His address is 2243 East Washington Blvd Pasadena , CA 91104 The other is Scientific Auto. This place is a more expensive. I also think the owner tends to want to replace things that can wait. He does very good work. I find him a bit arrogant and pricey. Here is the address 1727 E. Walnut St. Pasadena, CA 91106 626 795 7018 My advice is to talk to both and see who you are comfortable with. For God sakes don't go to Rusnak. $ 270 for an oil change...Please......... PM me if you want any more feedback. Good luck, Phillipj
  13. Duster, That link seems to be dead...... Phillipj
  14. Tool Pants, What if the oil is coming from the spark plug tubes? What does that indicate? There seems to be some oil on the tubes on the passenger side. No leaking on the headers or floor from that side though. I have had the car looked at by two Porsche mechanics... One is very practical and the other is very anal. The practical mechanic tells me not to waste my money. A little leak is not a big deal. The anal mechanic says I need to do both cam covers. But he also wants to replace my clutch (which is fine), replace my tires (which have plenty of life) and do my brakes (they don't need it etc..) Needless to say I don't see the anal mechanic anymore. I don't really have enough Porsche experience to know what the right decision is. Thanks for your input! Phillipj
  15. CJ, Mine acted similar before completely failing and leaving me stranded in my 996. I would advise you to replace it asap. There is a great DIY on this site. The switch is very inexpensive. Don't go to the dealer because he will want to replace the entire assembly and charge you $500 +. Gotta love Porsche for that.... Good luck Phillipj
  16. Dang, Sorry to hear that you need a new clutch after only 5k. Shame on Porsche for allowing that to happen. Hope you get it replaced with a proper clutch this time. Phillipj
  17. 99 996 C2 I have a small leak on the drivers side cam cover. Occaisionally when I get on it real hard a drop of oil will hit the exhaust and smoke real bad. Quite embarrassing. My mechanic said it is not a threat to my motor but I need to address it relatively soon.. I did a search for a DIY thread but could not find anything. Has anyone done this job themselves? I have heard varying opinions on difficulty and hours required. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, :renntech: Phillipj
  18. My friend (he is 20 years old) put the muffler bypass on his 997 S. The car is very LOUD. It sound good if you're 20 but is too much for most people. He feels he has lost some low end torque but likes it overall. You can go to the Fabspeed website and listen to a soundbite with the muffler bypass. You do have a sustantial weight savings without the mufflers. If you do decide to buy them you can switch back to the mufflers very easily. Just takes a few minutes. If you looking for performance I doubt you will be impressed. You may find the car to be obnoxious. If I were you I would go for the mufflers (Tubi, Fabspeed, whatever.) The mufflers save you some weight and have a very nice sound when you get on it. Hope this helps. Phillipj
  19. Porchester, Are all of the mods you have done to your car compliant with the warranty company? My fear is that I lose an engine and they say "sorry you changed your (whatever) so we won't cover this". Does a chip void your warranty? Exhaust? Air filter? Plenum? Just wanted to know. Thanks, Phillipj
  20. I have a 99 996 as well. Mine does the same exact thing. The sound goes away after about 10 or 15 seconds. Like Loren said this is normal and nothing to be concerned about. Phillipj

  22. Porchester, Thanks so much for the info. I will give them a call. Keep me postd on your car!! Take care, Phillipj
  23. I brought the extended warrenty for 7yr/100,000 at new. I cost me $3,500.00. For $2075 for another 5 years, I will go for it Thanks for the feedback Stephan, Have you had to us the warranty for any repairs yet? If so, How were they to deal with? Thanks, Phillipj
