  1. I have a 2004 Cayenne Turbo with 132,000 miles. On long, high speed drives I was getting occasional errors on the instrument cluster about 4WD fault followed by PSM fault, which was occasionally followed by a total loss of power. I would pull over, restart the engine and it was fine again for another hour or 2. This didn't seem to happen with long low speed drives, so I thought it was something to do with heat in the transfer case. I took it to a Porsche specialist who found no fault, and no error codes, so I just bought a Durametric to try and troubleshoot the problem. I found a whole pile of error codes, that I would greatly appreciate some assistance with: Transfer Case Current Fault Codes 2025 Power supply - Short circuit to B+, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1314 DME control module - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 2039 Transfer box potentiometer - Short circuit to B+, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 778 Steering-angle sensor - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1336 CAN comfort OFF - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1316 PSM control module - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1317 Instrument cluster - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1315 Tiptronic control module - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light Bosch Digital Motor Electronics 7.1.1 Current Fault Codes P2237 Lambda control adaptation at idle, Bank 2 - Upper limit value exceeded, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light Porsche Keyless Entry Security System (KESSY) Current Fault Codes 1320 Air-conditioning system regulator control module No signal/communication 446 Function restricted due to undervoltage Air Conditioning Current Fault Codes 1810 Drive motor for temperature valve right 1299 Gateway Please read out fault memory Vehicle Electrical System Current Fault Codes 1494 Parking light left - Short circuit to B+, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 978 Left dipped headlamp - Open circuit/short circuit to B+, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1498 Parking light right - Short circuit to B+, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 979 Right dipped headlamp - Short circuit to B+, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 907 Load management operat. on vehicle electrical sys./DME control module - No additional fault status available, test conditions are not-completed, fault is currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1320 Air-conditioning system regulator control module - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1520 Rain sensor/light sensor - Implausible signal, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 2197 Potentiometer for footwell lights - Implausible signal, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light Steering wheel electronics Current Fault Codes 1320 Air-conditioning system regulator control module No signal/communication Gateway K-line/CAN 2003-2004 Cayenne Current Fault Codes 1320 Air-conditioning system regulator control module - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light
  2. Did you figure out how to replace the drive motor for temperature valve right? My Durametric is throwing up this error. I can also hear some kind of stepper motor or clicking coming from the dashboard. I am trying to locate the motor from the parts diagram on the bottom link you attached.
  3. When I search for these oils, I find the following: Tiptronic oil is Titan ATF 4400. Dry fill capacity = 9 liters Transfer case oil is Shell TF-0870 (SAE75W, GL-4). This is the exact same stuff as BMW X5 uses, and that seems to be about half the price of the Porsche oil. Any reason not to use it instead? Also, how much transfer case oil is required to do a change? Are there any DIY instructions for this? My car is throwing errors on the instrument cluster about 4WD system faulty and PSM faulty after long high speed drives, plus Durametric has these errors for the transfer case: Transfer Case Current Fault Codes 2025 Power supply - Short circuit to B+, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1314 DME control module - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 2039 Transfer box potentiometer - Short circuit to B+, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 778 Steering-angle sensor - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1336 CAN comfort OFF - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1316 PSM control module - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1317 Instrument cluster - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light 1315 Tiptronic control module - No signal/communication, test conditions are not-completed, fault is not currently active and is not causing a DTC light
  4. In Australia I'd snap it up in a shot. That car would be $100k here in that condition.
  5. When I am refueling my 1996 993, as I insert the nozzle through the flap into the filler neck, the tank is under sufficiently high pressure to blow a reasonable amount of petrol / gas vapour back out at me (maybe slightly greater pressure than when you crack open a 2 litre Coke bottle and hear 2 secs of fizz escaping). Even though I've learnt to stand upwind of the filler flap when pushing the nozzle in, I still smell of gas for the rest of the day. Is this normal, or is it possible I have a blocked gas tank breather or something? I can't believe that Porsche would have left a car design like this though. Any suggestions?
  6. I called Porsche and apparently there is no recall for my 1996 993 cabriolet roof. I took the car to the Porsche main dealer and they informed me that both roof locking microswitches had failed, causing the locking motors to not operate. They've relieved me of $680 for the repair, most likely using $1 parts available from a Radio Shack. It's possible that one microswitch has always been failed since I owned the car, meaning previously my roof only locked on one side as I always had a warning light that needed to be cleared everytime I lowered the roof. That problem is now fixed.
  7. What was the resolution? I just experienced this today on my '96 993 and had to lock the mechanism manually using a flat head screwdriver through those little holes in the headlining. I was wondering if it was a heat related problem as I left it out in the sun all day and it was over 40C (105F)? I have always had a warning light that required clearing if I put the roof down, but never had a problem before. Can anyone tell me if this was a worldwide recall or just Porsche North America? (My car is in Sydney, Australia.)
  8. Thank you. This is exactly the information I needed. My local specialist already found the fault and it was as you described. Hope someone else out there benefits from this info and doesn't go to their Porsche dealer for a financial raping.
  9. I'm thinking of building a 1973 2.7 RS replica from this car for road and classic racing. http://cars2.ebay.com.au/Porsche-T-Aussie-...emZ220317875871 I'd like to run a G50 gearbox if possible. Does these bolt straight in, or would I need to run a 915 gearbox? I'd also like to get hold of the ducktail rear deck, door cards and 2.7RS decals. Can anyone recommend a decent supplier who had genuine parts where available, or high quality replica parts?
  10. I took the car to a Porsche specialist after getting a HUGE repair quote from my Porsche main dealer (approx 50% of the value of the car). Essentially they were going to charge for taking the engine out and fitting a new gearbox, which also meant having the car off the road for several weeks. The specialist fixed the problem and a few minor things in 1 hour and then also checked over the whole car for a total cost of $200 AUD! :D The problem was simply a cable from the gear lever back to the gearbox was incorrectly aligned! It now locks the wheels in park.
  11. My 1996 993 Tiptronicl suffers from the problem of not locking the wheels when left in Park. The handbrake is also not very strong even though my local dealer just adjusted it. The problem exhibits itself by rolling downhill when left in Park on a slight slope, with a series of clicks from the gearbox. Is this a major gearbox rebuild/replace job, or is there a DIY option? Are these gearboxes built by Porsche, or from a 3rd party gearbox manudacturer as I'm looking to keep costs as low as possible. Are there any recommended gearbox people in Sydney, Australia?
  12. There is no factory hard top for a 993 cabriolet. I've never seen an aftermarket version, but I believe companies like Strosek can make them.
  13. I spoke to Patrick Motorsports at www.patrickmotorsports.com who have done conversion work like this. They say it would be a very expensive job with extensive labour and control unit costs. Cheaper to sell the car and buy the one you want.
  14. The answer is no. The screens are not oriented correctly so you cannot read the display from the drivers seat. However I bought a new VDO Dayton MS4150 RS radio with amber LED's, satellite navigation and mp3 capability that suits the car very well. It looks like a Becker and matches the dashboard perfectly, but with much upgraded sound and functionality. I can't think of a better radio for a 993. Now if only I could find a map CD for Australia...
  15. Hi Henk, did you ever find out about this, as my Tiptronic box is showing signs of failure?
  16. I have a 1996 993 Tiptronic. When its in 'Park' on a gradient without the handbrake applied, the car will roll downhill with a 'click click' noise from the transmission. What is the likely cause of this, is it an expensive repair? If so, how much engineering would be required to fit a manual gearbox to the car? I guess it needs the gearbox, master cylinder, clutch and pedal box assemblies and hydraulic lines, but are the manual and tiptronic cars actually different, ie no holes in bulkhead for clutch pedal, different computer, different flywheels etc?
  17. Does anyone know if the CDR22 radio will fit straight into a 1996 993 without changing wiring etc? I currently have a CDR21 but it is very tempramental playing CD's.
  18. I have just bought a 1996 993 Carrera cabriolet 3.6 Tiptronic with a few problems. 1. For about 1 hour after I turn the car off, there is an electrical hum coming from the air conditioning panel on the dashboard, as if the fan was still blowing. 2. The interior courtesy light in the windscreen surround doesn't receive power to the unit, although the fuse is fine and there is power leaving the fusebox. 3. Every time I start the car, I have the general error exclamation light on till I reset it. How do I find out what is causing this? No other fault lights come on. Is it possible/inexpensive to get a cable and software to connect a laptop to read the OBD port? 4. The car doesn't seem at all responsive when you boot the throttle until it reaches about 4000 rpm, then it starts to pull well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  19. What is the standard wheel size including offset for 2001 TT? I have currently a set of 19" Champion RG5 Monolite but am unsure of what offset and width the standard 996TT should be fitted with.
  20. Ouch, sounds expensive. Are there any Porsche specialists or Porsche race teams near Belfast who can look at the car? I would not go anywhere near OPC for a job of this size, unless your wallet is as big as your house. My car is out of warranty, so for anything major I take my car to the guy who prepares the Porsche Carrera Cup cars in Sydney. He is a lot cheaper and probably knows a fair bit more than the mechanics in the OPC. For example a minor oil service at my OPC for my car is $850 AUD + 10% VAT ($770 USD), whereas this guy can do a major service (oil, plugs, filters etc) including full suspension strip down and setup for around $1200 ($1000 USD).
  21. My 2001 car has covered 60,000km (40,000miles) and according to the oil gauge has used less than 1 pint (half litre) of oil in the last 6,000 miles. Should I be concerned about my gauge working correctly?
  22. I had same question, drove the 997 Carrera and 996TT back to back, starting with the 996TT. After about 2 mins in the 997, I wanted to park it and get back in the 996TT
  23. You can get better after market sat navs. Mine maybe doesn't look quite so nice, but works better and cost less than 1/3 of the price of the factory satnav. Its a Techart part, with the brain mounted where the multichanger usually lives. You can also hook up a TV receiver, reversing camera, PC and DVD player if you are interested in that kind of thing. and you can move it to your new 911 when you sell the old one :D
  24. I just spoke to Porsche Sydney South - they recommend Mobil 1 0W40. I'm about to do my oil change too...
  25. Loren rides to the rescue once more! Thank you - its part #16
