  1. It's not possible because the cdr23 uses the MOST bus.
  2. I had the same after replacing rms and clutch. Took the car back and wasn't able to put gear in reverse. Did not notice until I tried driving backwards out of my garage. Was not serious, just some piece bended at the transmission. Dealer replaced that piece and it never happened again. Apparently it was bended moving the transmission while doing the replace.
  3. Thanks Koen, although I'm not sure I follow... is there somewhere I need to hook this up on my new radio then? Or can I just leave it hanging? Unless you want some kind of burglary protection, I guess you can leave it hanging. I replaced my CDR220 by a Traffic Pro and I had to leave it hanging as well to avoid the horn beeping when engaging the alarm.
  4. For #3: What is that brown / blue wire / plug for that I said wasn't connected to anything? I believe this is the alarm connector, as soon as it gets to ground it will trigger. It should be connected to the metal holder which guides the radio. On the original becker there is a non conducting patch on that spot, on other radio's there's nothing, that's why it's disconnected.
  5. You have to click on Add reply in the correct thread, instead of New Topic. The latter makes a new topic and this is not wat we want.
  6. Hm, I bought a 996 Coupe M490 of eBay, I'm in the US for another 2 weeks so I can't check here. But it's definately no Cab one. I don't know the year either, but maybe I can check with the partnumber when I get home. Thanks for the suggestion. Koen
  7. Thanks for the hints! I will report back when it's fixed. (will be a couple of weeks)
  8. Well, it happens that I bought myself an M490 6 channel amp to drive the rear speakers instead of from the becker unit. The 6 channel amp came without any manual or so. I guess I can swap it straight with my 986 M490 4 channel amp? In that case does anyone has the pin-numbers to be used for the rear speakers? Thanks. I was kind of disappointed with the rear speaker volume when I originally installed them (PNP which are presumably better than the stock ones) and hope to get a better sound distribution now. Searching through the forum, the only pin numbers that came up were 5 and 15 plus 6 and 16 for the rear speakers. Can anyone confirm those?
  9. Maybe a stupid question, when doing a swap, can you preserve the rear trunk? And is the swap visible when inspected from under the car or do all those engines look the same? When I all read those stories about swapping engines I am kind of jealous about you're being able to do swaps without any implications of Tax (which is engine displacement dependent here) and Insurance (which is power dependent here) Just to know if you have to register your new engine to the authorities or if it would pass visual inspection?
  10. The best I ever had myself was 8,5 liters/ 100 km. Which is about 31 miles a gallon. (No cruise control, airco on) I drove to Koln airport in Germany for 300 km nonstop, a lot of traffic but no queuing so I did about 120 km/hour all the time. The same on the way back and I got 630 km before reserve sign came on. I think the numbers told by rsfeller are believable. Most petrol consumption is by stop and go and speed changes.
  11. Thanks for correcting me RFM, I was convinced that by pressing twice I was engaging the alarm. Good to know!
  12. I was convinced that the factory alarm was only engaged when you press the open/close button on your FOB twice within one second. When the alarm is engaged my car honks. When I only press once, the blinkers flash and no sound unless a zone is open. I had a zone open after swapping my CDR to Becker Traffic and the car honked everytime I was just closing it. (No need to switch on alarm all the time here) After applying a sticker to the Becker unit, everything was back to normal. So for me it's: 1 press: blinking no horn - No alarm, 2 presses: blinking + horn + alarm engaged. To unlock it's only blinking. Could that behaviour be programmed in?
  13. The alternative is to look for a "Blaupunkt Apple iPod Interface" This cable has the same connectors as previous poster but has some intelligence in an electronic circuit. You can drive the iPod like a cd changer from the CDR-220 The Blaupunkt is compatible with all Beckers. Here's one on the european Ebay: http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/APPLE-IPOD-INTERFA...1QQcmdZViewItem And it will charge your ipod as well.
  14. If I'm not mistaken, it was about bridgeing C6 with A5. (confirmation needed) I did this on my Traffic Pro install and it did the trick. There is more info here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...;hl=traffic+pro I don't have the exact info handy here, but could check it tonight if this doesn't help you further.
  15. Assuming the pin layout stayed the same as Becker Traffic Pro and you have a Becker CDR 220 (Pre-most) it is just swapping out the CDR and putting in the Cascade. If there's an external amplifier, you need to bridge a wire to make sure your amplifier wakes up with the radio. There is already a speed signal on the CDR 220. No need to have the reverse signal. The antenna can be placed under the cap of the remote control receiver. It is possible to guide the antenna wire to the unit. Not very easy though, takes some trying out and possible a guiding wire. If you don't have the CDR220 or a most bus I thought you could get the speed signal from a connector under the seat. (Not sure about that)
  16. Thanks Polarexpress, I wasn't aware of the icelink solution. Time for another upgrade I guess... :-)
  17. There is no way you can control your iPod from a CDR 220. Without changing the radio, the only thing you can do is making a connection from your Aux input to the iPod. When selecting Aux the CDR 220 will play the music from your iPod. For charging the iPod, you could maybe modify a cheap iPod car-charger. The alternative is swapping your CDR 220 with a Becker Indianapolis or Mexico system and adding the custom connector. (100 $ or so) Then you can control the iPod from the dash and charge it the same time.
  18. I was talking to a Volkswagen engineer at the Belgian assembly plant in Vorst (recently converted to Audi) and the guy told me that they calibrate the speedometer to show 5% more than the actual speed. Just to handle future changes, there is tollerance on about everything and this would make sure the actual speed is not higher than shown.
  19. I switched my CDR-22 to a Becker Traffic Pro High Speed recently (3 months ago) and I never experienced any battery drain problems. Installing it was pretty straightforward, the only change was splicing a wire to make the amp switch on with the unit. I think I found the description on Renntech. (Search for Traffic Pro) My Boxster is a '00 model 2.7. As I recall, the install would not be possible with the 03- models as they use the MOST bus. I bought the Becker Sattnav for about 200 euro on Ebay so it wasn't the Porsche version. I think the Porsche OEM becker satnav is the lowspeed version anyway.
