  1. I would like to know this also the 996 I'm buying on Friday has a sun roof, WOW 2K to fix it I don't think I will be using it very often.
  2. I have already learned quite a bit about the IMS problem, I think that will be the first thing I do to the 2000 996 I'm going to buy. I I'm not sure what Bore scoring is I guess I have more to read. Oh I do have a ton of questons but I will be searching and reading. Thanks for the welcome. Glad to be here and looking forward to what lies ahead.
  3. Hello I have been part of other forums over the years and I have seen someone new get beaten down by the masses for posting a picture or asking a question, I understand a little kidding around and good clean fun but give us a break. I’m new to this forum and Porsche’s but I would like to learn more about the Porsche I own and the people that own, fix and enjoy them as I hope to for years. I have always enjoyed working on my toys from my BMX bike when I was a kid to my 900RR speed bike and everything else I have owned over the years. I know from time to time I may post a simple stupid question that is common knowledge to all of you but not to someone new, I just hope that my question are not seen as stupid but more as someone that would like to learn more. By the way the car is coming along really well, I drove it around yesterday. I have to replace the front and rear brakes and the cam timing is a little off and the top working at all. Newbie working on learning more and having fun every step of the way.
  4. I"m going to work on a excel sheet to do the math for this.
  5. I called Vinnie is out town this week. I don't know if I can wait a week, you know used cars come and go pretty guick.
  6. The will work out great the car he is looking at is in Pompano. Let me give him a call. Thanks.
  7. Hello a friend of mine is looking to buying a 2000 996 for himself. What should he be looking for? I have seen a video on Youtube saying to look at the hood and trunk for originals labels for the car that would indicate that it has not been in an accident, leaks on the or around the engine and transmission. Anything else you can think of? Thanks for your help. One more joining the family. Check paint (in or around openings for overspray). Check interior. Check A/C. Check Heater. Power windows Radio (and CD changer if equipped) Windshield wipers and spray Check hood for OEM labels and matching paint. Check trunk for OEM labels and matching paint. Check front tie rods and bushings Check tires and rims Check under car for dents or abuse. Check coolant level and color. Check serpentine belt. Check water hoses. Check motor oil and level. Check engine for oil leaks Check transmission for oil leaks and oil level. Check power steering fluid. Check drive axles and boots. Plus anything that looks out of place or missing.
  8. I’m sorry but what/s the point of this? Does it give more power and or economy?
  9. Try 0763 Worked great thank you so much.
  10. Try 0763 Thanks I will try it out. Thanks again for the quick reply.
  11. I thought about that but I was not sure how to remove it and I did not want to break something else. This is my first time working on a Porsche, a few friends of mine are now asking me if I would work on their 911.
  12. I agree that was only the get the engine under the car after I dropped the car down onto jack stands. I wanted to buy this but http://maxjaxusa.com/ it was a little much to spend for this project. if I need to keep working on it I will order it.
  13. HI can you help me out with the code for a Becker CR-210 with SN: W50 10867 thanks
  14. Thanks. I know some things will break and thats fine every car sooner or later will break down. My thing is I don't want to be fixing something ever weekend I will be OK with that.
  15. That depends on your right calf muscle. Thats funny and very true.
  16. Thanks I will look into it.
  17. One of my Porsches is 2 years older than yours. Same mileage. And I drive her over 300 miles per week. But only on a sunny weekend day. :) Thanks, so it should be ok, I'm guessing MPG should also be OK in the mid 20's?
  18. Hi as you may have read on another post I have been fixing a 996 and with your help and advice I finally started it last night and now I’m thinking about keeping it. I have never owned a car like this before and I’m not sure what to expect. I know it would save me gas when you compare it to the monster I drive now but could a Porsche be a daily driver I drive maybe 150 miles a week? What problems do you think I will run into driving a 99 car with 70K mile on it? And I’m sorry if this is not the right place to post this, Oh one more thing if I may are there any Porsche clubs or meeting that I can attend to learn a little more about them and talk to other Porsche enthusiast? I live in Weston, FL. Thanks for your time.
  19. no you do not have to take out the engine to remove the transmission on this car But you do need to support the engine with the transmission out. thanks.
  20. What do they mean by contaminated fuel?
  21. Update. Everyone thanks for all the feed back. It's great to find a community that everyone is so willing to help someone else out without knowing the other person. The car only had a two fault codes. Oh by the way what is the appropriate name used to describe the vehicle, car, Porsche, 911, 996 I know some groups are very particular with the word is used to refer to the vehicle. I come from a long family of Jeeps owners. Fault codes in AC section RED 20Combi-interface fault RED 24Power supply (terminal 15) fault We will your help I was checking the CPS and I noticed the plug that I had plugged into it was the wrong color, so I swapped it with the right color one and it started right up, it's pretty loud with out mufflers. I still need to get a few more things done before it ready for the road but it's looking really good. Now that is runs I have a new fault code. P1397Camshaft sensor bank 2 Short to ground I unplugged both sensors and checked them both I'm not sure which is bank 2 I'm guessing by piston 4. I checked both with a ohm meter and both give me the same reading. but the one on bank 2 piston 4 the cable coming out of the unit is in bad shape that may be the short that it's complaining about. One more think I noticed today. if I turn on the radio it says CODE. I need to type in the security code for the radio right, where the heck can I get that? Or should I just replace it with a new radio. I would like to keep it all original. This is fun..
  22. Sorry for asking but to take out the transmission do you have to take out the engine? I'm new.
  23. the car will drive with a bad crankshaft position sensor? I thought it would die.
  24. WOW I did not think about that! Would I still get spark at the spark plugs? I guess I have something else to check. Can I check it with a ohm meter? Thanks
