  1. Get the shifter adjustment took for what 7 bucks through sunset or whomever and use it to adjust the shift cables. Make sure that the nut isn't too tight but just enough to remove the forward and aft play. Further make sure it is in the right direction as per instructions, i.e. facing back or front- cannot remmeber. The shift tool makes a HUGE difference. I got mine off ebay - $185 shipped. It was a real blast driving to work today - first time out of the neighborhood with the SSK. It already seems to be loosening up or I'm just forgetting how the stock shifter felt. I see what you all mean about the "notchy" shift action. Way cool...! :jump:
  2. doesn't look that hard to build an enclosure around the top of it using plastic container large bottle and cutting it and maybe pop riving it or using pem nutz with the foam sealing tape. If you don't like it take it off. Hi - to be honest, I don't believe that is the primary function of these holes. The water must exit at the 'lowest' point which is hole in the bottom of the air box - made obvious by the water marks leading to it. This hole also deposits any water in the gap behind the engine by the belts and onto the floor - no I believe those holes are 100% for air intake or balance only. Taking another look at the holes - getting cool air to them is going to be more of a problem than I originally thought due to the a/c lines - there isn't much room in there... I'm taking the tape off for the moment, but may cut a second hole into the sub frame of the Aero kit just to feed it cold air by convection .... Thanks for your thoughts... Richard. Here's my set up with the EVO induction system. I don't much like the design because it seems to me it suck in more hot air than cold....but it works well so I can't argue with success.
  3. It's pretty self explanatory. You line up the drain hole see wherer the bolt holes go, remove those bolts and reinstall. How well does it work? I have one and scraped my oil pan on a speed bump or somethign before I had it. My car was at gt3 spec and I heard it hit once. I can't say anything about driveways as I always angle just to get in and out.
  4. I taped them close. I then removed them. I think that although it is a source of hot air, the increase air flow does make a difference, at least it seemed that way when I removed the tape.
  5. What would be the result of using such a light gear oil other than the syncros being wierd? Would it damage anything? Thanks Loren. The mechanic at the dealer said any API GL-5 rated hypoid gear oil in 75W-90 weight would be fine in the front differential. I am planning on using Red Line 75W-90 API GL-5 + Hypoid Gear Oil. I'm guessing this is a good gear oil...any comments? I think GL5 will cause problems in the rear transaxle. It's too slippery. The levels of antifriction/antiwear additives are too high. This keeps the syncros from working properly. Redline makes GL4 oils in regular and light weight I believe.
  6. Screw all that- go cheap and buy the plastic covers that go over them-you can get them in black or chrome for like 20 bucks.
  7. I have had the clutch replaced and complained about it. The idiots told me that they put something in backwards initially!!! it would be ok for about a week then be bad again and has always been this way since. I would bet that this is the problem.
  8. I had a problem with this as well. The problem with my pss9's was that after my corner balance the idiot's lowered the front too much and the springs would fully compress during normal driving creating an under damped rebound problem. The car still is doing some of this albeit not nearly as much at the same settings I had it before the problem. I really wonder if the shocks were damaged/ worn out from the negligence??? I am really thinking about removing them sending them out to bilstein over the break as I am gone for a month snowboarding.
  9. cool about the different release arm. You have identified the problems I have had since installation of the new clutch! I have complained and coomplained and complained. What do I get oh, it's normal. I also have the secondary wierd clutch jump thing exactly at the top of the stoke it really pisses me off!!! Is this what you have done with your car? I don't exactly get what you're saying with the removal of the spring. Are you suggesting to remove the clutch spring at the pedal, or compress it with tie straps or something? would you happen to have that part number for the release arm and or an idea of cost? Since I have been complaining about this very issue and there is a tsb out about it, would it be possible somehow to present it so I don't incur the likely great cost of labor??? Thanks very much I would love to have my clutch become predicatable again. :)
  10. Threw in the towel and am going to stick with the factory ones :) The bosche and trico arms were almost the same cost. The refills didn't come in teflon (the only reason for the refill ave.) Further they came in narrow and oe sizes and I couldn't tell which would be better, so..... yeah
  11. Great. one last question I notice with the trico blades they have like 5-6 different ones. Some say narrow, some say oe fit some say other. There is however only 1 bosche part number whether the micro edge or not. Make me want to consider either going bosche although the tricos have teflon ones??? I think I might bring the arms in along with a caliper and guage the best fit.
  12. Nice any suggestion on brand? I was thinking bosche or whatever that triple edge is.
  13. yeah it's strange. I think I might pick up a set of refills and keep the arms as they are. Thoughts?
  14. good to know I will just use the ones I ordered then. Thanks. Doesn't it seem wierd with the wind flap changes though?
  15. Hey can you tell me more about this 99 clutch engagement problem, mine engages inconsistently. I have had this problem for some time now and they have replaced the slave but it still exists PLEASE tell me more. Also I notice the clutch level if depressed 1/3 has sideways movement normal?
  16. Wierd so the passenger wiper doesn't have a wind deflector but the rear one does? Seems backward especially with what's on there now??? Can you confirm other than the part numbers which should have the wind deflectors?? Can I use two drivers wipers so I have the wind deflectors? (I like them and do drive over 150 ehem often) thanks. :)
  17. Help Loren, I ordered a set of wipers for my 99 996 c2 and they don't seem to be the same. The new set for the fronts only has 1 of the speed flaps whereas my stock ones have then on both. Also the new rear has the speed flap on it where the one on the car doesn't. Ideas? The part numbers on the boxes state: 996 628 04 500 996 628 901 08 Thanks.
  18. sweet. So did you have to fab your own radiator openings as I see pop rivits???
  19. That must be even more effort though to shift it when the tranny is cold. Regarding the notchiness, there is less mechanical advantage and hence less leverage and more exageration of the center detent or midpoint. I change out the tranny fluid and while it makes it easier to engage the gears the shift effort is the same. I drove my friends 996 the other day without SS and couldn't belive how easy it was to shift, albeit long throws. The solution is to dump the top mounted shifter and put in the under car-(tranny mounted) SS before only ruf and techart made them but now B&M does and I hear that there is the same shift effort as stock since it's the same leverage but that the short shifting is the same. I have thought about it time and again, as I HATE the increased effort as well.
  20. there is a deal called a CG lock that goes on your seatbelt to do just that. I cannot comment on how well it works. I would go to a rear/mid engine driving school before anything. Also know that the auto X will eat pads and tires UP. Otherwise you will need a helmet. you can pull crap out of the car to save wieght but I dunno if you want to do that. I have a c2 and don't use the spare in the front don't have rear seats anymore have 5 spokes, gt3 seats, tequipment roll bar pss9's gt3 bars trg links, stoptech 14" brakes pagid orange, stainless lines, cup brake ducts, srf brake fluid, B&B headers, chip, gemballa exhaust, porsche SS, those are all relevant to tracking. Harnesses are as well of course. YOu can always get a harness bar that you can put in and out and a harness. See about the cg lock thing. I would be interested. I have also heard of a trick using the stock seatbelt tensioner to do the same thing btw.
  21. The best compromise are the Pagid S pads. I liked them a lot. They lasted reletively well. I now run pagid orange all the time and you do have to romp on them to keep them from squeeling but they sound like a bus. I am used to it but it's rediculously annoying, and they kick out the same amount of dust.
  22. I seem to remember with some cars there being a problem because they have such low resistance they flip the light out indicator on some cars. you can put a resistor on it to circumvent but sheesh.
  23. buy the stick wheel deal that comes in a 3 pack from griots they are the best kept secret ever. I can get them 100% clean with normal crap. The only thing that remains is old wheel wait adhesive strips. You will need the 3m remover for that. The stick works best using circles and also getting in just behing the front parts at an angle- I have 5 spokes.
  24. Thanks I know I am not crazy now. I am running 36/40 and this seems better cold temp for daily driving. I will try those other temps when I go out to the canyons. The weird sloppy feeling must be due to the variable contact patch and greater slip angle the design gives even at a lower load rating v. a normal tire- i.e. less distortion. These tires actually are designed to distort to give more contact patch. It feels really wierd but I am pushing the limit more and more and it just keeps going until the fronts while ever so slightly and push out a bit very linearly I might at at 120 through a corner :) I think I miss my bfg kd's even though I complained about them it was the corner balancers fault for making them feather because he set the car too low and the shocks couldn't work right and not the kd's hmm. Well the wet traction is grossly superior as the kd's had ZERO :)
