Manual Bypass Retrofit for Sport Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Hope it doesn't sound daft but what does the above provide? I saw this item offered on the carnewal website and wondered if it would enable me to switch on and off my sports exhaust?

I have a 2002MY 996 C4S with sports exhaust which is always on - and believe it or not sometimes get a bit weary of all the exciting noises !!! Just wondered if this retrofit would enable me to control whatever it is that makes the exhaust rorty?

If it is the ticket - does anyone know how easy or not it would be to fit myself - is there any drilling of the exhausts for example?

Does the retrofit have the annoying nanny control that kicks in (and then off again) at a certain speeds - that would have to go!

Thanks

Yes, if you get the exhaust and the manual switch you can set it up to be controlled only by the switch. See a DIY in the 996 DIY section.

You need to order both the mufflers and the switch (the switch is sold separately).

There are two small holes that need to be drilled through the heat shield for the vacuum control lines. Most of the rest is standard muffler replacement stuff.

The electronics and wiring will need to be added. That will require removing one seat and adding a relay to the relay panel (under the left front dash).

Probably a 4-5 hour job (being careful and first time install). Porsche dealers usually charge 6-7 hours (book) labor.

Note that if you install the switch, and connect the speedometer wire the PSE will go into quiet mode between 25 and 45 mph (I think this is the speed) even when the quiet mode is not seitched on. When I installed my PSE with the controls I did not make this connection so that I have "total" control on the loud vs quiet mode. It might also be possible to put a switch on this connection so that you wold have three modes.

Thanks for the reply - but I am still unclear - I have the PSE but the old speed control version - or I think thats what it was called - it doesn't have the manual override via the switch that the new system has.

My query was was whether the manual bypass kit Gert is selling could tap into the old style PSE to offer this manual over-ride.
