Roller Wheel on multi function steering

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have the PCM with a Multi function steering wheel. It is a great option. However, I find that my left (mostly for volume) roller and click wheel is too "notchy" between rolling clicks. Sometimes I'm unable to roll the wheel and I end up pushing down on it which activates the select (click down on roller wheel) function. Is there any way to adjust or fix a roller wheel that is too hard to thumb roll?

thanks

It is only the left (mostly for volume) roller wheel that is sticky. Therefore this is not a generic issue. I'd rather try to free it up myself first than to take the car to the dealer. I have a used car from USA that I purchased in Canada. I'd rather see the dealer the first time with a more legit problem. Does anyone know how to pop the lid off these multi function thumb roller pods?

cheers

I have been having the same problem, but with the right thumb-wheel for the past 1 year. Unfortunately, there is no solution offered for this problem, as even Porsche AG cannot solve it. It really angers me that as customers, we have no power to make a change. Maybe if enough of us get together and send a petition, we might be able to make some difference(?) The problem is not with the thumb-wheel sticking per se - it doesn't make a good contact which makes the wheel too "sensitive" (or so I have been told). I am now thinking of changing the steering wheel (which also Porsche has refused to do for me) to another type of steering wheel, even if it doesn't have multi-functions on it.

I'm not sure we have the same problem. My left pod works but the roller is too stiff something to roll with my thumb. The inner spring is obviously too tight. I sure I could easily fix the problem but I need to FIGURE OUT HOW TO POP THE COVER OFF the multi function pod in order to expose the inner workings.

thanks

If the left is significantly stiffer than the right, you probably have a problem. Your best bet is to go to the dealership and compare it to another car instead of futzing with it yourself. Why even bother? You'll probably get a whole new steering wheel under warranty.
