Center Console Lid Question

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me if the pic's below are correct? Shamefully, I never opened the center console before I took it out of the car and it's been a while since I tore it down (I know, should have taken pictures). Thanks for the help.

Been a while since I have done that - but it looks okay.

It will only work (and spring open) one way - so if it works as normal it is likely correct.

I wasn't sure if the lid should open further (don't want to break the hinge).

Not much further than shown - but if your hinges are plastic instead of metal now would be a good time to replace them. The plastic ones all break (sooner or later).

Hello again Loren,

I just bought a 1999 996 and the center console lid is broken (as you have stated above). Please advise me on a repair. It looks like I'll have to replace the complete console as the only thing holding the lid on is the little strap.

Thanks for any help,

Patrick Ford
