I know this is going to sound kind of, well, non-problematic.............but is there a place to hook the gas cap on while one fills the tank? Because I can't find a 'hook', I have to let the cap just 'hang-down' over the tire while fill the tank and this just seems so....non-Porsche to me.

Thanks for any help,

C'ya,

Look on gas door for the hook to put the strap that holds the cap

Interesting response, I've never seen this. I always put my gas cap up on the windshield wiper upside down. Could you possibly share a photo of this strap configuration?

The cap with the tether and hanging hook started in 2001. With that said, there was a gas cap recall several years ago. The replacement cap was the tethered style and some owners asked the dealer not to pull the tether off.

If your 1999 has a tether then that is because the cap was replaced during the recall.

The first pic is a 2001. The second picture is my 1997 Boxster. Prior to 2001 there were slots on the cap that you used to hand the cap on the flap. My 1997 was not subject to the recall so I have the original cap.

Thanks for the replies. My car is a 99 and it does have the 'tether' on the cap. My lid, however, doesn't look like either one of the pictures; mine has a kind of 'notch' on the inside front (this would be facing the rear of the car when the lid is closed).

On my BMW the 'tether' has a small ball the slides into the notch on the lid; that's why I asked this question in the frist place.

So, I can either let the cap 'hang' or take the 'tether' off and put the cap on the plastic slot between the hood and the windshield?

Thanks again for your replies,

C'ya,
