Coil Spring Replacement DIY

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, I have a 2.7 boxster year 2000 and yesterday had the misfortune to break one of the front coil springs. Can anyone point me in the direction of a DIY article for replacing the springs. Springs are stock items. Average DIY skills, but any tips on the easiest way to do the task would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

Quite funny really, my brother had parked his old rusty ford escort in my drive and had jut reversed out to let me park the box. I drove in, got out the car, noticed a chunk of metal lying on the drive, I burst out laughing and told my bro that he had snapped a spring, upon inspection, cue much glee from my brother as he said, It's not mine !!

Looks like it happened when I turned into the drive and clipped the kerb. Not sure if it happened before and the bump loosened the broken part of the spring or it broke when I came into the drive.

Didn't have any handling problems previously.

Anyway off to Porsche to get a pair of springs - £140. The replacement looks quite complicated, so I'll probably have to get my local indy to do the work. I thought you could just undo the top bolt, drop the strut and fit the spring, but all instruction shows a much more complicated removal procedure.
