Central Locking Problem

Recommended Posts

Before I start taking the door apart and investing in a new lock mechanism I thought it worth running this past you guys. When I lock the car I get a double beep - indicating a fault. The passenger door isn't locked. I then open and close the passenger door and push remote again and it locks - but still double beeps to tell me there's a problem. With the very kind help of a fellow enthusiast we have identifed a fault code and it would seem that one of the door micro switches is registering that the door isn't closed when in fact it is.

What baffles me is the fact that I can open and reclose the door and it then locks.

I previously owned a Ferrari and came to expect weird electrical faults with that but not with a PORSCHE!!!

You will need the Durametric software, a PST2, or PIWIS tester to read the alarm fault codes.

Most Porsche independent shops have at least one of these.

Sorry, perhaps i didn't make myself clear. It has been checked with a PST2 and that is indicating a microswitch not registering that the door is closed when, in fact, it is. I was looking to see if there was anybody else who had suffered a similar problem before taking the door apart and changing the locking mechanism.

If you can use someones Porsche tester, than you can check the switches one by one to find the faulty one.

I've done that and it's a microswitch that indicates whether or not the door is closed. Is this repairable or is the solution to change the lock?

The switch is build in the lock and not available separately, a new lock is recommended. If you are able to get in the lock and look what's wrong, perhaps a stuck mechanical part, and you can fix it, it's up to you.

The microswitch that is available separately is the one behind the outside door handle.

The microswitch that it part of the lock assembly is not available from Porsche as a separate switch.

IIRC, member Juniinc once posted a source for a separate microswitch from a British website, but I was never able to narrow down the part number on that website.

Regards, Maurice.
