Dash gear display transmission

Hello, I'm proud today to be a new contributing member...

I experienced hard downshifting on my 04 V6 and 3-4 times the "D" in the dash gear display became higlighted and freeze to "D" on display unit, but I can change the hand selector to manual **** or use reverse, neutral and park. When I turn off and restart the car, everything is back to normal. Please see the picture as per attached.

In most cases the hard downshifting can be fixed with a program update by your dealer/OPC.

You might also have a problem with the gear indiactor switch, the odd time water can migrate into the switch.

I've seen some doing that after a few miles. when you start the engine it works properly, and then it shows up. everything is working good, you can actually change gears, no mater what gear you are you will end not change that "D". do you know if you have any other problems with the car? like engine faults? cause cars from Audi group does that when engine problems occurs.

Loren - could you tell us what is the code for update on transmision? thanks.

The dealer just hooks up the PIWIS tester and re-programs the controller.

The PIWIS has the latest version of software for DME and Tiptronic, etc.

I also have this problem but the DTC is Solenoid Switching Valve (S1) open circuit..

Do i need to change only this Valve? or the Whole Valve body?
