Deflectors from a GT2?

Recommended Posts

The little wind deflectors that look like little rubber lips ahead of the front wheels on the underside of my car ('01 Boxster) are starting to fall apart. My dealer said this is a normal wear item and wouldn't replace under warranty. Somewhere I seem to remember reading they could be replaced with similar items from the GT2, except the GT2 ones are a little larger (stick down about 1/4" lower than stock), and provide a little more air flow. The stock items are p/n 996 504 503 00 and 996 504 504 00 (left and right).

Does anyone have the corresponding part numbers for the ones from the GT2, and will they fit right in? Any advantages or disadvantages for replacing the stock ones with the GT2 ones, i.e., maybe more brake cooling while driving through the canyons, but will my car fly off the freeway because of greater air flow by the front tires? Has anyone used these as a replacement part, and if so, what was your experience?

OK  No takers, huh!?

I stopped by the dealer to see their seal grey Carrera GT, and talked to the parts guy. He looked it up on PET, and said no little diffuser / rubber lip for a GT2 or GT3 because they have the whole front spoiler. I asked about a turbo, and he came up with a part number (different from the Boxster and 996) and said they're over $100!! This is for the part numbered 4 in the figure from the parts catalog

Does this sound right? If no, does anyone know the equivalent part number for a turbo and approximate cost? This is becoming more a matter of principle and curiosity than anything. Since I need to replace the broken one, I should at least know my options, right...

Turbo parts:

996 504 503 02 Left rubber lip ($13.51 retail as of Nov 2003)

996 504 504 02 Right rubber lip ($13.51 retail as of Nov 2003)

Carrera parts:

996 504 503 00 Left rubber lip ($13.51 retail as of Nov 2003)

996 504 504 00 Right rubber lip ($13.51 retail as of Nov 2003)

I very much doubt prices have gone up that much -- but after the 3X price increase on manuals who knows?
