Minor Coolant Drip

Recommended Posts

Have spent a good part of the morning sifting through the hundreds of posts/questions on coolant leaks. What I have barely qualifies as such, and it is really more of a drip or two, and only after the engine is hot, as it cools it stops. I was having my car teched for DE and asked the shop to look into it and they said it was a "bypass valve gasket" leaking that needed replaced. I didn't see anyone else experiencing this problem. The shop isn't a Porsche specialist shop so I'd love a second opinion. Alos would appreciate the part # of said gasket.

Thanks in advance!

Lennie:

Are they perhaps referring to the bleeder valve assembly that sits on top of the coolant tank, forward of the coolant cap and under the small black plastic trim that covers the top of the coolant tank?

Where is it leaking from? The thermostat housing gasket?

Let me try and upload a pic (sorry about the marginal quality)...

Lennie:

That is your thermostat housing gasket leaking.

To avoid or minimize draining the entire cooling system, use a pair of hose pinch pliers to clamp the coolant hoses going to and from the thermostat housing before you remove the housing to replace the gasket.

The part number (for just the gasket) is 996-106-326-50 (about $4.00).

Regards, Maurice.

Finally got around to ordering the part number referenced above. It is an odd shaped gasket, not the rectangular one that I need. Can you double check the part number?

Thanks,

-Lennie

The gasket number specified earlier in this thread is the incorrect part. You need part number 996 106 316 51, as shown in the attached pic captured from the 996 PET:

Thank you very much THAT is the part i need!
