15,000 service? DIY or Dealer

Recommended Posts

I'm at 9500 miles, figuring I reach the 15,000 service before I park my 996 in the garage the car for the duration of winter.

I looked at the DIY checklist and the only things that really seem to be needed are oil/oil filter change(did that at 6,000 miles so I'm familiar with it) and the particle filter replacement(pollen filter?) I know the air intake filter isn't changed till 30,000.

I plan to have the dealer do the 30,000 service as it include spark plugs, something I don't feel like doing myself.

Is there any harm in not doing the overpriced 15,000 service with my dealer? I track and autocross it, and do regular checkups and maintenance on it myself. I will be having the dealer do a brake fluid flush and refill with ATE Super Blue and inspecting the brakes shortly so that is already taken care of.

Totally welcome. And yes, pollen filter.

Here is what I ordered for my 15K:

996 110 131 52 AIR CLEANER $21

996 107 225 52 OIL FILTER (I think it ends 53 now) $10

900 123 106 30 ALUM SEAL FOR OIL FILTER $.15

996 571 219 03 POLLEN FILTER $40

The oil filter is still 996 107 225 52.

Also, the 996 571 219 03 pollen filter is the activated charcoal filter the plain one is 996 571 219 01.

Don't know about US legislation, but in most European countries there could be warranty or goodwill issues if things go wrong with your car.

Apart from that you are right: The 15,000 mls service is a rather overpriced oil change.

Cheers,

Uwe

I like the activated charcoal filter because it takes odors out too.

just make sure you use genuine porsche parts and approved oil. Also keep the receipts. The manufacture does look at dealer service history when an out of warranty or "goodwill" claim is being considered. As a former service manager I saw some goodwill applications get declined because of that.
