996 3.6 performance?

I have a couple of questions as a new owner of a UK spec my2002 996 3.6, man with the PSE exhaust fitted.

I have noticed on light throttle openings I seem to get a step in performance at around 2800 rpm, under quick or full power it is fine, any else have this?

The other thing I have noticed is that under full exceleration at around 5000 rpm the car seems to hold back then at around 5500 rpm it seems to clear and pull like mad to the red line. Any one any ideas?

It is the Variocam Plus. I have done a conversion from a 3.4 to a 3.6 in my 996. The biggest difference from the 3.4 to the 3.6 is that surge of power at 3K rpm. I like it. Still tuning the electronics in my car so the Vario cam at 3k is sort of like a nitrous shot :lol:

It is the Variocam Plus. I have done a conversion from a 3.4 to a 3.6 in my 996. The biggest difference from the 3.4 to the 3.6 is that surge of power at 3K rpm. I like it. Still tuning the electronics in my car so the Vario cam at 3k is sort of like a nitrous shot :lol:

Take a look at Fabspeed site (http://www.fabspeed.com/) I have a 3.6 2002 Cab that I got their exhaust (cats & mufflers) as well as airbox mods and chip tuning. They did a dyno test before and after and you can clearly see (and feel) the difference in the lower RPM's

Click Porsche, go to 996&GT3, scroll down to 996 Performance Package with ECU Upgrade, and scroll down and click PRODUCT DYNO: 2002 996 Performance Package with ECU Upgrade.

Biggest gain was in 2000-3000 RPM range, easily 50 hp at that RPM. So it's clearly an issue that can be taken care of

Sorry, that is total BS.

You can not get 50 HP out of a normally aspirated 996 - even with a chip, air intake and new exhaust.

The dyno chart states about 25 hp max. gain. However, there is a big difference in lower torque (yes about 50 ft-lbs.).

Surely a noticeable improvement, even with butt-feeling!
