Help... convertible stuck....

Recommended Posts

Hi, i was replacing my top and now the top is stuck. When I engage it with the key, nothing moves, but there is sound. The compartment led moved back and forth but now its stuck too.......From reading on rennlist, i am guessing (Hoping) that nothing broke and its just a time out error.....

How do you fix the time out error? Do you just put everything back into place and restart the operation?

I manually got the top to close to put my hard top on. For those of you who manually closed the top:

Does the convertible light stay on?

How do I know when the compartment lid is closed all the way?

Do the side flaps come out?

My car is 1999 C4. Thanks for the help.

First check fuses D3 I believe. Another possibility is the hydraulics are low. see here. The manual has instructions for manually moving the top. It also says to re-calibrate after such activity (although I have done this with no calibration necessary. Also get codes read JIC.

Thanks for the reply, so you had manually moved the top, did the convertible light on the dash board go away when you did this?

My light stays on, and thanks to the speed hack for the top, I am able to drive on it....

I will definitely check the Hydraulics this weekend when I have a chance to remove my hard top (only car.....)......

Thanks.

  • 1 month later...

How do you calibrate the top?

I have the Smart Top.

When opening with the Smart Top the cab closes properly but the lid stops two inches from closed for some reason.

If I then use the button it closes properly.

I have occasionally had the cab top fault, but it always goes away. I also have the SmartTop module. Sounds like a sensor may be at fault. Probably need a PST2 or PIWIS to find the sensor.
