Newbie with phone question

Recommended Posts

I finally took the leap and bought my first Porsche, an '07 Carrera 4S. I'm trying to sort things out without the manuals (working on getting an ebay set). My question is how can I tell if I have the phone module installed? When I put my GSM SIM card (iphone) in the tray and push the phone button, I get the message "Internal telephone not available." Does that mean there is no phone module or it's not programmed? I'd appreciate any help I can get. I love the car, but I would love to have a working phone too. Thanks.

That message means that the phone module is not installed. Most people do not use the factory module in these cars, as it requires that you swap the SIM card from your cell phone to the PCM tray in the car every time you want to use the system, or that you get a separate SIM card (with a different phone number) for the car. Either way is a pain. There are a number of aftermarket phone units that integrate very well with the factory PCM controls, and provide blue tooth functionality with your regular cell phone. NAV-TV and Dension are two names that come to mind. Look for them in the net and you should find a dealer/installer close to you without difficulty.

Thanks for the advice. That was my suspicion, but I couldn't tell. I'll look into those units, but I don't think I would mind getting a separate line either. Hmmm, something to think about.

Yes it is the forest green with green leather. I'm loving it and looking forward to using the forum! :D

If ever you're in SoCal and see some whacko in another green one waving like his hand's on fire, that'll be me!
