I Hate To Be Anal Retentive But...

Recommended Posts

I hate to be anal retentive but... the prior owner of my 996 must have worn one of those big *** dive watches or something on his wrist... Cuz, the driver's side door pull is all scratched up. :(

You know... the aluminium looking tear dropped handle used to open / unlock the door ...?

I tried calling a few places for a replacement but had no luck. Thus I need your help. Got any suggestions on finding a replacement or maybe the cost to re-paint?

:help:

Paul

PS

So far I tried :

Pelican Parts, Brandywine, Parts Heaven, Ebay, Pioneer Porsche. . .

I blasted Eric a email... Maybe we can get a Renntech group discount?  ;-)

Couple of thoughts: the replacement handle from the factory should be in the $130 range from most dealers, and a simple solution.

Yes, we can paint it. We are in some trials now with a newer alumalook finish, but a lot will depend on the year. In the earlier models of the 996/Box, the alumalook package matched Arctic very well. In the more recent years, '03+ the alumalook seems to be a bit more grainy and with a matte clear finish.

We are working on some test parts now to match that finish. What year is your vehicle? Is the door pull grainy looking in any way, or a smooth look?

The best price so far is $130 from Brandywine Porsche and my buddies at Pioneer Porsche here in SD may put it in for free... I just have to bring them lunch one day . . . What are your thoughts?

Paul

The problem with that approach is that the handles may not match exactly. We’re in the perfection business. The only way you could expect perfection is to have both painted at one time.

But in reality, and replacement should only take about 30 minutes to complete. Painting these parts is difficult due to the curves and angles, and there are often runs in the finish that require major sanding and repainting. The labor would be quite high.

Did you speak with a dealer about it yet?

1999 Carrera (2) Artic Silver, It looks smooth to me but I'm no expert...

What price range are we looking at?

As to avoid going to the dealer twice and to pull & install the newly painted handle, and to avoid not being able to drive the car for a week can you ship the newly painted one out first and I'll ship you back mine later like we did with the cores of my bumperette's?

Paul

We are not talking about a lot of money here, are we? A $130 replacement seems to be a cheap solution to your problem. Yes?

I would say buy the new pulls from Jason at Brandywine, have your buddy install them, and be done with it.

Simple?
