B+ Control Line/Faulty Valve?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have really come up against a brick wall for this, can anyone help me with what I need to do next?

From Loren's post, I would like to get to the bottom of P1654, with the three possible causes being (i) Short circuit to B+ in control line (ii) Coolant switch-over valve faulty (iii) DME issue. I am pretty sure it is not the third, in fact I suspect it is the first, as it is intermittent, however it is possible that the valve itself is faulty intermittently. So......could anyone point me in the direction of how to test for either the short circuit, or advise on how to test if possible or check to see if it's the faulty valve. I am willing to get under/around the car if necessary with an electrical testing kit etc, but I need a bit of help on where to start. For example, where/what is the B+ control line, and how do I get to it and what should I be testing for. I appreciate that this may be a complex issue, but a pointer in the right direction would be helpful if anyone has the time!

Thanks!

Sam MY06 3.8S

Remove connector of coolant shutoff valve. Measure resistance at coolant shutoff valve between Pin 1 and Pin 2.

It should be 20-30 ohms - if not replace the valve.

Otherwise the problem may be in the connector or wiring harness and that will be much hard to diagnose.

Thanks for your responses Loren and vizcarra44. I have to ask, where is the coolant switchover/shuttoff valve, where can I find it on the car, I presume it is on the underside of the vehicle, is it normally accessible or do I need to remove something. Diagram would be great if possible......

Also noticed that you called it the shutoff valve, not the switchover valve, I guess maybe it's the same thing?

Thanks, I can then test as per Loren's reply.

Its under the car, towards the end of the transmission, on the drivers side. You will need to take an underpanel or two off to get to it.
