Ln Engineering Oil Filter Kit

Looking on the LN website for the IMS bearing kit I noticed they also have a kit to replace the standard oil filer and housing on 996's. I have searched on the forum but cant find any details about it. Has anyone tried it.

I just installed one on my 99 C2 Cab/Tip. The installation was dead simple and once together there were no leaks or any issues. I did it because I always struggled to get the canister off. This should make it a lot easier and cheaper to do the oil change. I ordered the deluxe kit that came with the magnetic drain plug.

Thanks for the info. It looks like a much better set up than the plastic canister and cartridge, mine comes off OK but its easy to cross thread it putting it back on, messy too.

It's a good idea - the guys at Callas Rennsport have seen the paper filters disintegrate and stuff paper throughout the engine. Not exactly what you want to see in an oil filter. Spin-on oil filters use also paper filter inserts which will disintegrate occasionally, the small holes in to the light alloy oil pipes, on top of the camshaft housings on 911 air coolers were susceptible to that issue, especially when no premium brand spin-on filters were used. You do not know how many 911 engines suffers, after a few years, with partial or complete clogged oil nozzles by that.

The “tearing” problems with the OEM cartridge style filters typically happens on the paper end caps of the filter where it slides over the block, causing a by-pass leak. The spin on filter uses metal end caps and a metal cage around the filter media (both inside and out), which totally supports it. The spin on is rated at over 11 gallons per min. flow at temperature and pressures well beyond what the M96 typically sees, so it is very durable, plus the media is has a pore diameter one third smaller than the OEM style filter as well. Better made, better filtration……………

Right - I agree with JFP. Maybe I'm a sucker for Mobil-1 stuff, but the Mobil-1 brand name on that filter makes me a bit happier with it than the stock OEM filter. An added benefit with the LN Engineering kit is that you can easily add an Accusump unit to the car. Great addition for a track car, here's a pic of Charles' Boxste race car with it installed.

Wayne, get a Wix NAPA Gold filter (#1042) and cut it open beside the Mobil/Champion filter, you just might be surprised why even Charles uses the $5 Wix unit............

I have had my screw on for two years with no problems. Comes with install tool and machine work is exquisite. :thumbup:

I use the Napa filter at Charles' advice also. He said it flows best. Also get the magnetic drain plug.
