Having A Hard Time Putting Car In First Gear

Periodically i have to force my 01 996TT in to first gear. Clutch is excellent- had all Fluids just changed (trans-oil-both diff's) still sometimes i have to force in first gear or double clutch or roll car to get into first. Any Idea what might be going on and how to fix?

First time posting so if i didnt include everything needed for help let me know.

Is it possible your brake fluid has not been changed/flushed/bled in a long time?

If there is a little air or moisture had been absorbed into the brake fluid (because brake fluid is hygroscopic), you won't get the best action from your clutch pedal. The fact that if you double clutch and that makes it easier is one clue that this may be the cause.

Also, try to put the car in second (at a stop) for a split second before pushing it forward into first and then letting off the clutch and see if that gives you any improvement. If so, it may indicate the beginning of a worn synchro.

( Note: I am no expert on Porsche transmissions, but I've been through this a couple of times with my old BMW. ;)

Hey,

One real simple to check is that the floor mat is properly positioned and has not slid forward under the clutch pedal. That happens occasionally to me and it prevents the clutch from fully disengaging.

I thought you might appreciate this.

My next door neighbor came home with a new to him Toyota Matrix, 5 speed, about three years old, and in "like new" condition.

He was admiring his car, and brought his wife and daughter to share in his good fortune. He started the car at the base of his driveway to let them see how smoothly the engine ran and proceeded to move the car up about 30 feet so they could get a close look. CRUNCH...CRUNCH...CRRRRRRUNCH. He couldn't get the car in first gear and called me in a panic, thinking that he had just been taken advantage of by a Toyota dealer's salesman.

You know the rest of the story...After investigating, it was obvious the mat was preventing the clutch pedal from being fully depressed. His face was glowing red...like a tomato... But we all felt much better that he hadn't bought a disaster. :jump: :jump:
