GT3 clubsport cage question

Recommended Posts

Here is a challenge for you Loren... what material if the Porsche clubsport cage for the Gt3 made from? Is it mild steel or alloy? This appears to be what will make the difference of it being legal for PCA racing or not. If you don't know, any thoughts on how to contact Germany to find out?

A Clubsport roll cage is made of steel (25 CrM0 4 Steel)

The exterior diameter of the tubes is 40mm

The wall thickness of the main roll bar, the front roll and the belt bar is 2 mm

The wall thickness of the longitudinal strut and the diagonal strut is 1,5 mm

The elastic limit is 600N/mm²

Tensile strength : 700-820 N/mm²

PCA is saying the cage is not acceptible, they are claiming Porsche did not design it for track use. I emailed them info from Porsches site that specifically shows it as a "racing cage" for "circuit" use. Any idea where I can get more info. Is the cage FIA or another organization approved? I don't want this to be the end of my racing hopes for this year. Any ideas?

Is the cage FIA or another organization approved?

In the approval by the DMSB (Deutsher Motor Sport Bund) is written :

"We certify that the present safety structure complies with the conditions for international sporting code of the FIA in particular with regards to it's attachments, it's connections and it's stress resistances".

It is approved for all DMSB-a and FIA groups.
