I have 1999 996 cab2 with a relatively new clutch. When I have the top down or the window open, when I depress the clutch when I am moving slow or just starting I can hear the cable creak. Is this normal? What do you think. Everything feels right.

i have the same problem, changed the slave cylinder but the noise came back 2 days later.

had it checked up at the dealer, they said it's not a major issue and that they would have to change the pressure plate for that creaking sound to go away. pretty F### expensive to get rid of that sound, so now i'm still trying to live with it.

BTW there are many threads about this creaking sound, check em out when you can.

cheers.

I had a similar squeak occur a few months after I bought my car. The previous owner did not drive it frequently and the car had very low miles.

The sound was only audible with the top open or windows down and it sounded like a squeaky cable. I chose to live with it, and luckily after about a month of ~daily use it disappeared and has never come back. So you might get lucky...if nothing else use this as an excuse to drive the car often :-)

Hello everyone,

I had the same noise (something like an out of lubricant metal wire grids on the casing) with my car since I bought it this spring (@12k miles). I recently took it to the dealer and they identified that the noise was from the pressure plate. They put a new clutch set and a new release bearing and the issue is gone. I do not have access but TSB 3005 (997-1) may be related to this.
