Hey Guys,

I just bought an '03 996TT with 25k on the clock. I have a few questions, hopefully someone can help me out;

after driving it only 50miles the CEL came up, I scanned it and I got a P0430 code. I know my car is fitted with an aftermarket exhaust. After doing some research I've found that some people put O2 extensions on the O2 sensor after the cat, in order to avoid the annoying CEL. Also, I have NO IDEA what exhaust I have. The Guy I bought it from states that it is a Eisenmann exhaust, but after doing research, I realized that just the tips are Eisenmman.

My question is;

-Is this ok to do?

-If so, is there a DIY write-up on it somewhere

-Where can I get these O2 extensions. Anywhere online (Ebay?)

-Lastly, How do I find out what kind of exhaust I have?

Thanks

Nick

The "extensions" are old time spark plug non-foulers you get at your local auto parts store. You just drill out the small hole on the end and screw the O2 sensor into the spark plug end and then screw the non-fouler into the exhaust. This isn't always 100% guaranteed to work but it seems to on many. The ultimate fix is a DME flash.

I just got the same code on my 2004 TT.  I have a Gemballa exhaust. One of the recommendations was to check the voltage at the sensor, but it didn't say what the voltage should be.  How does the DME flash work?  Does it just disable the light?  Any other recommendations?

P0430 45 TWC Conversion, Bank 2 - Above Limit

Possible fault cause
- Oxygen sensor ahead of and after TWC exchanged
- Valve lift fault
- Aged oxygen sensor after TWC
- TWC faulty

1. Check whether the oxygen sensors ahead of and after the TWC.

2. Perform system test for small lift.

3. Replace TWC.

On your recommendation item 1, you mention check "whether", but I don't understand whether what is before or after the TWC.  Do I check to see if the O2 sensor is before or after the TWC?  And the second question is, is the small lift test a test with reference to valve lift?  and how is that tested?
