I locked my only key in the trunk. I unlocked the car when I opened the trunk but it locked automatically after x number of seconds since I didn't open the doors. I am able to open the driver door because I've got the door apart trying to figure out why none the electrical functions work in the door.

I can pull the trunk switch but it doesn't work since the car thinks the doors are locked.

Any ideas? Will the emergency hood release in the fuse panel work? Can the dealer program a new key without having the car?

Thanks

Andrew

I don't think applying power to the emergency jump point would help b/c it still has power so nothing would change. Strange that you can't hit the unlock button on the dash. I guess you could wait for the battery to run out then do that ;(

There is a manual cable release to the front latch just like there is one for the rear latch. It's a little wire with a loop at the end. It goes toward the driver/left side of the car. But I can't recall how you get to it exactly. You might just need to pop out the left front turn signal (use the little card thingie in the owners manual or make your own from a credit card). Maybe try a search for front lid cable release. PM me and I can send you a pic from the parts manual but it does not show the routing.

Thanks for the input. I just spoke with my P-car specialist and he said if I get the front on jack stands, I'll be able to reach the emergency release cable but it will most likely break as they're really a one use kinda thing. I actually had to replace the last one because someone had used it before.

He also had another idea. Since I can open the driver door, he said to get in the car, close all of the doors and hit the door unlock button on the dash. I'll try this at lunch.

Really? I've never seen one break unless you "really really" pull on it hard.

If it does not release when pulled on then it is likely the latch is jammed.

Unlike the 996/986, where the emergency cable is connected directly to the lock mechanism, 997/987 cable is connected (simply bound) to the solid plastic sheath(conducting) of the electric motor - cable unit, which is operated by the release button inside the car. If the emergency cable is pulled, the fracture risk of the sheath(conducting) is approx. 80%, then obviously a new unit must be placed.

If you indicate as the door is open, why not plug power in to the cigarette lighter with a battery maintainer or something similar?
