Hardtop for 2010 Boxster

Recommended Posts

Recently purchased a 2010 Guards Red Boxster. Love it! I'm starting to plan for off season driving and exploring the purchase of a hard top. Can anyone tell me their experience and "Gotchas" regarding this effort? Any suggestions on the used market, expected price, quality inspections, etc?

I got my hardtop when I ordered my '07 since I live in New England and was planning to drive the car year 'round. I really like the top and glad that I bought it. It does take two people to install/remove the top. Also, when I have the top loosely in place, I prop up the rear window with some bubble wrap (about 4" or so), which makes it easier to connect the rear window defogger cable. Then I secure the top.

BTW, when you buy a hard top, you will need all the hardware that goes on the car to mate up with the hardware on the top. Sorry I can't help with locating the top.

I have a 2010 boxster. purchased a used hardtop - harder to find but you save considerably off MSRP. Here are the big issues (1) You need to install a hardtop mounting kit. This is not an easy job on 987s - takes a couple of hours and at least two individuals as your convertible top has to be partially removed to insert the bolts. (2) once the hardtop is mounted takes some time to adjust it (3) it squeaks and rattles - after several adjustments made some of the squeaks go away, but still rattles on rough terrain. All in labour costs are going to be high.

The 987 soft top is of extremely high quality - would recommend waterproofing it before the cold season and not bothering with the hardtop. however the car does look very good with a hardtop on, but i do not think it is worth the hassle. This is my opinion.
