Spoiler Warning Light

Recommended Posts

A friend's turbo is lighting the spoiler warning light 10 seconds after the spoiler raises and doesn't extinguish until the car is stopped and restarted.

6 months ago the microswitches were faulty and replaced and all was fine. The rams started leaking a week ago and were replaced. Since then the light comes on every time the spoiler is raised whether automatically above 75mph or manually via the switch. The PIWIS code reads 9150 I think which is the generic code that there is a spoiler malfunction. Thing is, the spoiler is actually working normally and raising equally. The rams have been bled properly. The microswitches have been replaced again with no effect. We've even tried to bypass the microswitches by joining up the black and gray wires from the microswitches and isolating the blue and black ones. The light then just comes on and stays on all the time. ECUs below the passenger seat are all dry.

I suspect there may be a break in a wire leading to the microswitches as everything else seems to work. Any ideas anyone?

Got the malfunction light on the spoiler on my 996 01 Turbo. Fixed it using WD40 to clean the spoiler rods once raised up manually.

Once cleaned smoothly, few sprays down the shaft, it should work normally again. No more warning light. Good luck.

Got it too...but mine were leaking. The spoiler was not going up exactly even...it could tell even though I couldn't. I let it go then it was visibly noticeable after a few more weeks.

Fixing the hydraulics is a pain, some say impossible - replacing the system is the only option. I put more fluid in (ATF w/Leak Preventer)...it only helped a few months and started right back. I eventually pulled out the hydraulics, and went with a fixed spoiler kit (manually adjustable) from eBay. The guy that builds them is on most of the pcar forums.
