996 TT wheels/tires

Recommended Posts

New guy question here: I have an '04 996 TT Cab that I'm running in HPDE events. Looking to get a set of track tires/wheels so I reduce wear on my street tires (Pilot Sport PS2's). If I get a set of TT Hollow spoke wheels 18x8.5 front and 18x11 rear, can I mount larger tires on the rear wheels, say 305's instead of the stock 295/30-18's?

Thx. Yes, finding that size may be an issue.

Looking for some data on track tire selection also. I realize everyone has opinions about the best tires, but what experience do people have with tires on 911 TT's? I'm currently running Pilot Sport PS2's on the street. For track use, looking at Toyo R888's, Pilot Sport Cups, Hankooks, Hoosiers, etc. Thoughts?

Thanks. Great looking triple black 996 TT you have. How do you like the GT3 seats? I'm thinking about swapping out my stock turbo sport seats to keep me planted while tracking. Looks like you're using regular seat belts and not 5 points. Does that hold you in well enough? I'm looking to get GT3 seats, and probablky add a Brey-Krause harness bar (Cab model) for some 5 pt harnesses.

Thanks, no 5 point, but have used CG lock for track. I love the GT3 seats...WAY better than stock. You actually feel like you are sitting IN the car.

What about 315/30 - 18?

and for front will 235/40 - 18 fit? (stock is 225/40 -18)

car is 2002 911 turbo

Yes, 315/30 - 18 and the 235/40 will fit. I would roll the rear fenders though.

Make sure when you chose your tires, the rolling diameter is within 2% (front and rear) or you may risk damaging your front differential.
