722.6 - ATF lines

Recommended Posts

Where abouts are the ATF lines for supply and return on the 996?

Need a good place to disconnect so I can change all of the transmission fluid manually.

Did it on my Lexus with 10L instead of just doing the 3L out of the pan and went great. Thinking to do the same with the 996.

You can not empty the torque converter without removing the Tiptronic, the only way to empty the converter half way without removing the Tiptronic, is removing the valve block and let the Tiptronic a full night to drain. It would be a crazy idea and a big risc to do that only for an oil change IMHO.

You cannot use this approach on a 996; everyone seems to lose sight of the fact that because the Tip uses an oil to water cooler that is built into the side of the Tip, there are no lines carrying fluid outside of the transmission, only coolant. RFM is correct, the only thing you can do is drain the pan, change the filter, and refill the trans. You will exchange somewhere between 3 and 4 quarts of the 9 or so total in the transmission, no more.

  • 3 weeks later...

Search under my screen name for an interesting post regarding how to do this depending on which version of the tip tranny you have. I'm going to tackle this in about 3 weeks and will post an update once done.

If I could only know exactly what hose (R134A or other) I need to connect to my tranny I would be in heaven... Jeff, you subscribed to this thread? ;) :D

I checked with one of my techs and found out the line we made up is a 134A line with a M14X1.5 adaptor on it to connect to the fitting on the pan. You can also buy Porsche's line, part# 000.721.950.71 Connecting hose -- US MSRP $40.05.
