Durametric Diagnostic cable vs Generic Cable

Recommended Posts

I was about to purchase the Durametric Diagnostic Cable. However, I did a Google search for "Porsche diagnostic cable" and I discovered a generic cable and software at this site http://www.obd16.com/wholesale/new-porsche-piwis-cable-2256.html. Does anyone have knowledge about how the generic cable works in comparison to the Durametric Brand...does is accomplish the same functions?

It is one of many Chinese clones of the Durametric. Often supplied with an antiquated version of the Durametric software, and vary variable as to what works, what doesn't, and for how long. I've known a few people on other forums who have bought them, and almost all of them have been disappointed. If you want to be able to rely on it, spend the extra and get the genuine article. Just my 2 cents worth.

+1, definitely a Chinese clone/knock off of an outdated and no longer supported version of the Durametric system. Do not support these clowns, there have been reports of some of these things creating expensive problems when hooked up to the car. Buy the real thing from the only company supporting the DIY Porsche owner's, Durametric.

Stay away.... I bought one a few years ago, it did come with an old ripped copy of the Durametric software. Once I loaded it up in my lap top it worked one time, then I got a prompt to download the latest version of the Duramteric software. Once this happened the cable never worked again. Tried to return it.... Right, no luck.

Bought the Duramteric and it worked flawlessly, I considered the $$$ i spent on the fake one my tax for being naive to believe a 30$ cable would do the job of a 275$ one.
