Question about converting fog light assembly and side marker to LED&#3

I have to admit that I have been lurking on this site for a couple of years now.  I purchased a 2002 996 a while back and had a lot of general questions.  It turns out a lot of people had similar questions so I never felt the need to post.  I owe lots of thanks to several members (THANKS!).  Fast forward a couple of years and I have enjoyed my 996 so much I went out and found a 987-1 (2005 Boxster Base, 2.7L, Manual, U.S., Silver with Black Top and Black Interior).  This is also a fun car. 

 

Now for the question:

I am considering upgrading the fog light assemblies and the amber side marker assemblies to aftermarket LED's.  I found on ebay a sale for both LED fog lights and both LED side markers from a company called REVi MotorWerks.  They claim that these are simple "plug and play" lights. I am pretty handy and do most of my own maintenance so I'm not afraid to tackle a job with medium difficulty but for what I'm paying I just want to plug them in.  Can anyone comment on whether or not these lights are worth the time, effort, and money.  I have read several posts from members that have done LED conversions and then end up with error codes because of voltage or current discrepancies.  I'm hoping that these newer aftermarket lights account for that in their circuitry.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Update.  Well I went ahead and bought both the LED side marker lights and the fog light/DLR LED replacement lights from an online ebay store.  The lights arrived today.  I installed the side marker lights which installed perfectly and worked great.  They also look great. 

 

I then installed the other two lights.  They fit perfectly into the bumper and the connections were simple direct fit connections (I also liked the look of these new lights).  However, they would not illuminate.  No DLR, No fog lights (tried every light switch position). 

 

I pulled them back off and checked the voltage at the connections.  No issues (measured just over 12 volts at each connection with the switch on).  So then I put my original fixtures back in and they worked fine.  Not to be defeated, I reinstalled the new lights and still no light (also not getting any error codes either).  Ultimately I put my originals back in.  Needless to say, either I received two bad fixtures (odds are very unlikely) or these lights are not direct fit plug and play as advertised (see my original question).  I have a question in to the ebay seller to try and find out if I am missing something obvious but the skeptic in me doesn't hold out a lot of hope for quick resolution. 

 

My guess is that these new LED lights do not have the circuitry built into them to compensate for the lower wattage required by the LED's.  Therefore, I think my original question is answered (the hard way).

Did you try reversing the connections (internally if fitted with 'coded' plugs) LED's are polarity conscious? You may well have done but didn't say so.

Another update.  Hats off to jl-c.  When I originally installed these new light fixtures there are two connections per light.  That is 4 total electrical connections.  Now remember that I installed them twice.  That is eight tries to achieve LIGHT.  I'm sure we could calculate the odds of connecting them exactly the same way every time but those odds would not be as good as the odds that I am severly electrically challenged!  And believe it or not I even knew that LED's are polarity specific.

 

Long story short, after reading jl-c's golden advice, I went back out in the garage and used my volt meter to check polarity on the supply power then connected the new lights with the correct polarity and bingo, LIGHT.  Granted, two of the connections are not exactly designed to plug in that way so it's a little misleading, but they still plugged-in in reverse just fine.

 

I am now a completely satisfied customer.  These lights look cool and work exactly as advertised.  I can't speak to the long term reliability yet but I can post another update after I get some runtime on them.

I would love to see some pics of the LEDs as I'm in the market for an '05 and that is a mod I can do myself :) TIA

      I recently bought some replacement halogen assemblies to replace my browned/burned headlights.  I'm going to use the halogens that are currently in the headlights, but am wondering what the best option is these days for HID, LED/Projector replacement.  Above all else, I don't want to melt my lenses, and I want to maintain the stock look of the car, cause ya know, it's gonna be a collectors edition one day ? The most recent topics I've seen are at least 4 years old...

      Im working on a unique porsche project and as part of it im looking to use the current (>2016) generation 95B Macan LED HeadLights. 
      What im looking for is the Wiring Diagram from the service manual program, so i can trace what needs to be connected to where relative to my 997.1 wiring harness.
      Yes, im aware this will be difficult. Im not looking to just plug and play.
      I already have all the wiring for the 997.1 and 997.2 cars (and a few others)
      Can anyone help

      Had a quick question—how exactly do I operate my rear fog light on my USA sold ‘99 Boxster 986?
       
      Though I’ve read on forums that I’m supposed to push the front light stalk until I hear a second click (at which point the rear fog light will be on), I don’t see that option on my car. My stalk only clicks one way for the front fog lights—no second click. 
       
      Same goes for the lights dial—the manual shows that I should be able to turn the dial counterclockwise for the fog lights, but it doesn’t seem like my dial turns that way to the left. Is it possible the dial is stuck or something? 
       
      Currently, when the car is on and at least the parking light is turned on, however, it appears that the driver’s side fog light is on—so I’m guess either there’s something wrong with a switch/wiring or I accidentally turned it on at some point and don’t know how to operate it properly and turn it back off. 
       
      Im attaching some pictures of what the lights look like and what my lighting dial looks like. You can see that the fog light is lit on the driver’s side, and is not on the passenger’s. 
       
      I’d appreciate any help or advice!

      I'm in the midst of designing a DRL setup for my 996.2 (which is a topic I recognize has been done to death). That said, I'm not a fan of LED light bars, and while I don't mind halos, this is a Porsche, not a BMW. Therefore, I'm taking inspiration from the Four Point Principle.
       
      I'm using 8x total Luxeon Star 10mm square LED blocks, neutral white, with 10mm square Carclo 10415 elliptical-pattern lenses, and a 350mA FlexBlock on each side. DRLs should be on the order of 400 lumen per side and 1500Cd at the center, so I'll be using slightly lower currents than the LEDs are made for. As soon as I get dimensions 1,2,3 in the attached image, or even better a damaged 996.2 headlight unit, I'll figure out heat sinking, but it will be relatively unimportant at 4W per side, 150C maximum junction temperature, and 100F approximate steady state temperature insight the HID housing (per Pedro's Garage).
       
      As far as wiring goes, here are my requirements:
      DRLs turn on with the engine DRLs turn off with the low beams The low beams can be turned on whether the engine is on or not.  
      There are several ways to do this, of course, and I think I've picked the easiest:
      1x Bosch relay with both NC and NO pins, connecting to 1x 928-610-511-00 relay carrier added to an open spot in the relay block Pin 30 connects to a fuse tap at A6 - Seat heater (switched on with ignition) Pin 85 connects to any conveniently-located bolt to chassis, possibly in the fuse box. TBD. Pin 86 connects to a fuse tap at A9 - Low Beam Right (switched on with headlights) Pin 87a is wired to the left and right FlexBlocks in parallel. Pin 87 is not necessary  
      The relays I have take about 150mA to switch, which *shouldn't* noticeably affect the low beams, but does put additional stress on the headlight switch. If that causes problems I might need to do the following instead:
      2x Bosch relays with NC/NO pins Pin 30-1 connects to A6 Pin 30-2 connects to D5 - Cigar lighter (always on) 85-1 splices into 85-2, connected to chassis ground 86-1 splices into 86-2, interrupting the YE/WH wire running from the light selector stalk before it splits to go to A9/A10/Canada DRL block 87A-1 is wired to left and right FlexBlocks as above 87-2 is wired to the other side of the YE/WH split  
      Thoughts? Anyone have input on headlight switch reliability or wiring plans?

      Recently I developed a glovebox light issue on my boxster 987 s
      I Attempted to replace glove box light with led and now it doesn't work at all, even with the standard bulb is put back that worked before, nothing.
      Attempted to swap with the footwell bulb and light housing, nothing
      Following this when locking the car the horn would sound
      So ... I Replaced the cable attached to the bulb holder part 99761265100 (glove box wiring harness). This includes a small metal switch that is pushed into a holder at the back of the glovebox
      This solved half of the problem, The car horn no longer sounds when locking
      However the light in the glovebox still is not working
      Swapped it again with the working footwell light and still nothing
      All of the other lights I replaced work perfectly.
      As I am aware there is no fuse for this bulb
      So how is it fixed. Even porsche themselves are confused????
