Porsche warranty - issues (long rant)

I am looking for some advice/way forward - I have an issue trying to purchase Porsche Warranty, in that Porsche UK state they will not perform the 111 point check and issue a warranty unless 3rd party electrical items are permanently removed from the car - these items are a dash cam and a Tracker unit, both of which are hard wired through the fuse box.

The Story:-

A few months ago I purchased a used 997.2 Turbo (MY2010, 29000 miles) from an independent dealer. (Actually deals with new Bentleys, Lambo's and Aston Martins. My car was a part-ex against a new Bentley.) I stated the car must have Porsche Warranty in order for me to buy it. The dealer arranged this with it's local Porsche garage, they paid the fees and obtained the certificate and warranty. I then purchased the car only to be told a week later that the warranty was void. (I have received a refund for the amount of the check/warranty as this was discounted off the price of the car, so I effectively negogiated £2500 off the price of the car.) The car was "in between owners" so the warranty should not have been issued and the salesperson at the Porsche garage was apparently suspended. I had a tracker unit installed for insurance purposes and the dash cam for obvious reasons.

The issue:-

Porsche UK state that no 3rd party equipment shall be on the car at the time of the check, and it will fail this check if there is and a warranty will not be issued. They also state that any equipment added after the warranty is issued will be checked at the time of a claim to see if it had any influence over the failure and the warranty could be invalidated as a result. I'm OK with this, depending upon what "equipment" is installed. I confirmed that the only non-standard Porsche items are these two electrical units and all they do is draw a little power though the fuse box rather than have wires draped around the cabin to a plug in the power sockets. (Apparently, running 3rd party electrical items this way is perfectly fine.) Porsche UK will not add a clause to the check stating my two items have been added to the car. My only option is to remove the items and the hard wires into the fuse box.

The tracker is required for my insurance, so removing this will need to be discussed with my Insurance Company and will no doubt involve a fee. The unit must only be touched by Tracker UK otherwise they will invalidate the unit and I won't be covered, so again a fee will probably be required to firstly remove the unit and then re-install a day later.

Porsche recommend doing this:-

1) Cancel my current car insurance and take out their own, as they don't need a Tracker device, I just need to buy the Porsche Tracking device instead as they require this for their insurance. (This is truly what they said.)

2) Pay someone to remove the Tracker and the dash cam along with all wiring.

3) Pay for the 111 check and warranty.

4) Pay someone to re-install the electrical items if I really want them and if a claim is made, expect Porsche to investigate if the electrical item caused the failure. If a link is found then the warranty will be void.

Advice required:-

Has anyway come across this issue with the Porsche Warranty before?? Porsche UK state they will not check the car and issue a warranty with these items installed but are OK with me putting them back in afterwards. My local dealer has already said they will follow the advise of Porsche UK so they are no help. Is there a way around this??

At the moment I see two options:-

1) Do not take out Porsche Warranty. Expect that a 5 year old 997.2 Turbo with 29000 miles should be trouble free for the next two years.

2) Pay folk and waste their/my time removing and installing this equipment, and pay for a warranty on a 5 year old 997.2 Turbo with 29000 miles that should be trouble free for the next two years

If you're still reading this then I apologise for the rant, but I did warn you. And thanks for any advice/comments.

Well you are £2,500 up on the deal so enjoy the car and stop worrying.  Keep the tracker and dash cam and don't mess about with them.

All cars go wrong at some time.  If it has a decent service history you might get two years of trouble free motoring.  If you are worried get an independent check done for £300 so you know what might go wrong.    Find a good independent Porsche expert to do your servicing.

Battery would be a likely problem at this age so stick a new one in and the biggest you can get in the hole.  Don't bother with a Porsche battery, there are plenty of other good makes with 4/5 year warranty.

People are just too worried about warranties.  Learn to inspect the car and learn to do a few things yourself.  Surprisingly, there are many things on these cars that are easy to fix and it will give you more confidence in ownership.

Warranties are a unique form of contract law, controlled by the applicable laws of the country or state in which they are issued.  I would suggest having your solicitor examine the wording in your case and tell you what your options are, before making any decision.
