996 Sleep mode won't/can't wake up.

Hi All,

 

I've got an issue with an early 996 Carrera.

 

The car was left unused for the last 6 days or so and from what I understand, the car goes into sleep mode after a few days to protect the battery. According to the manual, all I need to do is insert the key into the door barrel and unlock manually. Simple enough really.

 

The problem is, I can't rotate the key in any direction once I've put it into the door barrel. The red light on the centre of the dashboard still flashes so I don't think the battery is flat.

 

Any help appreciated.

Sounds like either your manual lock has been re-keyed or the locking mechanism in the door is broken.

I agree with Loren. Physically turning the key in the door lock cylinder is independent of battery condition ... the battery could be removed and not affect manual locking / unlocking.

Turns out it was down to user error.
