I want to say it's been there since I've had the car (which isn't long)...I've changed the IMSB ~500 mi ago to be safe, it's very quiet and you can't hear it with the doors open when applying throttle. Put my phone underneath the exhaust, mic facing up. The video definitely makes it seem a bit louder than it really is.

Mileage? Driven in the winters by prior owner? My guess is bore scoring.

It's possible, 100k. The car was in the south though for its whole life before coming to me.

Sounds like lifter noise.

When was the oil changes last and what weight oil are you using?

5w40, when i changed IMSB -- about 500 mi ago. The noise sounds like it's definitely coming from behind the wheels completely (doesn't seem like the imsb) but I'm having trouble identifying exactly where it's coming from..

Justin,

I have had this issue and done a complete M96 rebuild as a result. I have no idea how anyone could say your noise is definitely a lifter based on an Internet recording ! There are many other potential causes. It requires careful diagnosis.See thread below. There are many similar ones if you search for "ticking" on this and similar Forums.
