Squeaking Noise In Engine Compartment

Recommended Posts

Could be. Could also be a pulley.

Safely use a mechanic's stethoscope to try to narrow down where the squeak is coming from. If you don't have a stethoscope, I've used a long small diameter metal rod... Just be careful when the engine is running.

Thanks gentlemen! Will remove the belt later next week and go from there. Will report back when I find out what it is and, hopefully not something too serious!

is it a continuous squeaking? belt off will get you started in the right direction, mine sometimes squeaks when cold, and I had a Boxster once which squeaked when throttle applied which turned out to be a loose spark plug.

Belt off produced nothing unusual. In talking to a service shop he said his sometimes squeaks when he initially starts his car up. I noticed it when it was rather cold out but shortly after the car warmed up, all was gone. Think I'll just keep an eye (or ear in this case) out to see if it continues. Thanks for all the feedback.
