As I recall PIWIS 1 ver 34 was the last version for PIWIS 1 - it has been discontinued. At that point, Porsche moved to PIWIS 2 - which has a current version of 18.100.

Porsche discontinued the PIWIS 2 and now leases the PIWIS 3.

PIWIS 2 and PIWIS 3 use a completely different interface box - the KTS 520 will not work with a PIWIS 2 or PIWIS 3.

Your PIWIS 1 should work on MY2014 and older cars but will no longer get any updates (for those cars or newer cars).

When you run PIWIS diagnostics, does it try to connect to the KTS520, or do straight to simulation mode?

Does the computer recognise the KTS520 when you plug it into the USB port?  (Does it make the sound?)  If so, right-click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, and see if you can see a Human Interface Device.  It won't be labelled KTS520.

If the KTS is connecting to the computer it might be a firmware issue.  To update the firmware, you should try doing it from within PIWIS first.  Go to Tools > Firmware Update.  The firmware flashing process should take 2-3 minutes.  If the Firmware Update screen appears for a couple of seconds and then disappears, the flash was unsuccessful.  In that case, try updating it with the Firmware tool.  Run RBPLFWconfig in your Firmware folder.  Choose KTS520, USB connection, ForceUpdate, and Firmware version IP09.  A COM1 connection would be better, but you need the special Bosch serial cable to use it.  If it flashes correctly, you will see a progress counter.

Hello Richard,

Thanks for your help.

1 / Yes when i run piwis diagnostics it try to connect with the 520 ( it makes the sound ) only on 997, 987 and cayenne ( picture 1 and 2 ) but not with the other car ( picture 3 simulation  ).

2 / I find the human interface device ( picture 4) but i don't know it's good ?

3 / When i try to do uptade of the firmware with the piwis ( tool firmaware ) it appears a couple seconds and disappears ( it's unsuccessful...)

4 / I try with the RBPLFWconfig but i don't find version IP09 ? ( picture 5 ) . I try with the usb cable but i stops with the message could not open port ( see it on back of picture 5 )

5 / I have a com1 cable but not a female i must buy an adaptater

5 / You meens i need the special Bosch serial cable to use it ? Is it the Ubox 2 ? ( photo 6 ,7 and 8 )

If you must have more details tell it to me, best regards

The KTS520 does not click, click, click when you connect to a 16bit car (986/996, etc).  The Bosch serial cable is not wired the same as a standard serial cable.  Ubox2 is not what you need.
