Boxster Blows Smoke On Startup...normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

With only 500 mi. on it, I'd keep a watchful eye on it. It is probably nothing, perhaps just the rings getting seated.

On the other hand, Machinery has a tendency to fail either in it's Infancy or from Old Age. This usually relates to a defect(s) in the part(s) or improper assembly in the case of the former, or just plain wearing out in the case of the latter.

In either event, make sure you follow the Break-in recommendations, including the first oil change and as I said, keep a watchful eye on it. Also, I would mention it, in writing, to the Dealer to cover your Butt should the issue not shortly resolve itself and you start playing the Warranty Game. Good Luck!

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

I have the same "smoke" problem during cold start ups. I will try better gas. Anyone considered adding Slick 50 as an oil additive. It seems to have worked well in my other "older" vehicles.

My 2001 Boxster smokes briefly. Here is when : I start it to back it out the carport, turn it off, wash it. Start it to drive it back into the carport - lots of smoke. I use Chevron 94 octane. This is the only time is smokes. Should I worry ?

Where do you live? I'm a chemist working for Chevron for 14 years and heven't heard of 94 octane for general customers in the US. Slick 50, asuming it does anything at all to the car (the company has been accused of false advertisement) its effect would be related to moving parts wear, will not fix worn parts.

I live in Victoria. Chevron website http://www.chevron.ca/ProductsServices/Retail/Gasolines.htm indicates 94 Octane. I thought for a moment there I was mistaken.

What does "Slick 50) mean ?

I would like to add to this post that after making it a routine on only putting 93 Octane ive been having less smoke at start ups. Meaning, before it used to smoke only at start up atleast 2 times a week. now its been only about 1 time for every 2-3 weeks. :clapping: Just thought i should share with you guys.
