Approved Transmission Oils, Tiptronic

Recommended Posts

Im looking for all the authorized types of ATF that can be used in the Tiptronic, does any one have the TSB for this?

ZF who makes the tiptronic for porsche, recommends the following for the listed transmissions.

5HP19XXX types See application chart attached .

Porsche Oil No. 999.917.547.00 which is Esso ATF LT 71141, sold under Porsche pn. listed.

and (1) Fill differential and transfer box with gear oil Burmah SAF-AG4 (Audi / VW Oil No. N 052145000, Porsche Oil No. 999.917.545.00).

The fluids listed are rare and expensive in the states, Im looking for suitable substitute to use,

Pennzoil multi-vehical ATF Im told is an authorized atf and Quaker State multi-vehical ATF all say they can be used for Porsche. I really need to see the exact approved list of ATF's before I try to change my ATF fluid.

Look in the 996 DIY section. I did some research and the Pennzoil ATF is crossreference to replace the Esso ATF LT 71141. I called them twice and talked to two different tech reps who repeated the same information. Loren has the number, sorry I deleted it. The Pennzoil website has 1-800-990-9811. The quart is $2.99 at PepBoys, and I used about 6.5 (including the tiny spill)

I posted instructions on the fluid and filter change, just did it this past weekend. It is about a 2 hour job, and at 47K miles it made a significant difference in the smoothness of the shifting.

  • 1 year later...

The Transmission manufacturer is ZF, the attache file is the recommended fluids for the 5HP19 transmissions.

I changed my ATF in my 1999 Tiptronic car and used the VW Audi fluid. Its all the same Oil just repckaged for each dealer. AUDI, Porsch, BMW etc.

The place where I purchased my fluid is ETY Parts in LA thier email: ETYPARTS@AOL.COM

1.877.ety-part (Toll Free)

323.254.7442 (Local)

Here is the ATF link.

P.S. I decided to use the factory ATF inlieu of an after market such as Penzoil because this is what ZF recommends period.

It was about a 2 hour get dirty type job, Im going to change mine once a year from now on.
