Leave AC on when turning off Car

Call me old fashioned, but I was always told to turn off the A/C compressor before I turn the car off, if I wanted to extend the lift of the A/C. However, I have heard it does not matter in the Porsche (2001 911 C2), and the climate control system has it on all the time.

Is this the case? Or should I turn the compressor off before turning the car off?

But if the A/C compressor is left on when you turn off the ignition, wouldn't it makes the starter work harder when you restart the engine again. Now the starter have to pull this compressor as it tries to crank the engine. My thought is always turn off the A/C before you shut down the engine.

Modern day systems disable almost all accessories, including the A/C clutch, during starting

I heard turning off your ac a few mi before shutting engine off can reduce odor from dirty ac vents. Not sure if that's true though
