How to neatly drain coolant on a 99'C2

Please someone help me I just got oil on my hands attemptin to drain some coolant from around the thermostat housing!?! I remember reading somewhere in here "of course I cannot reproduce the thread" that there is a nut on the bottom of the engine that will allow you to drain off enough coolant to replace a hose or whatnot. I wouldn't drain it - it is very difficult to purge the air out without a custom vacuum tool.

I would use a clean catch pan - make the clamp change. Use a new screw-type hose clamp. Once you have the new clamp in place take the catch pan and filter it through a clean cloth (like a t-shirt) then add it back in. Do NOT leave the coolant cap off with the engine running it - it will spit out a lot of coolant. Use the air purge valve on top of the coolant tank. You can safely leave the air purge open for a few days - checking and topping daily up until the level no longer drops. If you need more coolant buy it from a dealer and mix it 50-50 with distilled water.

Ok, I just did not want to make a mess if it was avoidable as this is the big hose that goes up the drivers sided to the front. and I'm really not sure how much fluid to expect? The clamp where the hose goes onto the pipe is the problem(thank God, easy fix). I'll go do it now, outside, in Kansas City, 30 degrees, with a 15mph, crosswind, can't risk messin in the garage! Doh I forgot to ge some coolant while I was at the dealers today! Thanks again.

You can also make changing your coolant part of your routine maintenance when you change your oil. If you remove the coolant drain plug on the back of the engine, you will remove 2 gallons of fluid, quickly and neatly. Replace with 2 gallons of 50/50 and you're all set. Doing this is not only easier, but also keeps your coolant at peak level and eliminates having to ever flush the system.

Well, Thanks again. Things went well changed two clamps and hit the v belt all in one go. Hopefully all will go well tomorrow replacing the reverse light switch, and checking on a bit of oil I noticed at the front center of the engine. If you have any words of wisdom on that please do tell. Jim
