Has anyone used the fuel additive type of injector cleaners?

Recommended Posts

Hello all...

Has anyone ever used the type of engine/injector cleaner that you add to the gasonline tank in their 996's before- one of the better brands like duratech, penzoil, etc?

I used them quite often with my last 3 land rovers with great (and i mean awesome) results. the cars ran so much smoother.

any thoughts on this?

You should use injector cleaner periodically in all fuel injected engines.

Techron user here for the past 10 years. This was a must when I had my 911SC. I used a large bottle of the concentrated stuff right before each oil change. I started using it after some rough running that was cleared up within a tankful of gas and a heavy dose of Techron. I still use it in my 996.

...why do people do it with the oil change?

For me, three reasons:

1) The mileage interval is about right. My 986S is about an 8000 mile interval (yearly, before storage); my other cars are bi-annual at about a 5000 mile interval.

2) It's easy to remember to buy it with the oil, filter, etc.

3) Possible automotive myth: Cleaning out the injectors and intake puts the stuff into the oil...dump in the Techron, run that tank of gas, then change the oil...everything's shiny and clean again!

Regarding the interval, not all vehicles/engines or fuels are created equal, that's for sure, so 3000 miles might be barely getting by with a treatment like this, or you could go 30,000 miles. It all depends.
